This role is responsible for coaching, mentoring, and providing daily leadership and direction to the Group Payroll officers and Payroll administrators in the execution and allocation of all Payroll related tasks. Monitoring and validating tasks related to payroll polices and legislative processes to ensure they are executed accurately and in a timely manner. Working with the payroll leadership team on complex payroll issues, including problem solving, providing recommendations, execution of changes, tasks and reconciliation of payments when required.
- Hybrid role, working in Rhodes office 2-3 times a week. Must be in on a Monday and Tuesday

ABOUT THE ROLE
Reporting into the Group Payroll Manager, an opportunity for a Group Senior Payroll Officer has become available on a permanent basis. As the only Group Senior Payroll Officer, you will support the Payroll Leadership Team by task leading the 10 Payroll Officers and Administrators, upskilling their capabilities and efficiently allocate work to ensure the effective and timely processing of pays for 16,000 team members.
You will play a critical role in the mentoring of Payroll team members and serve as the go-to person for all payroll-related queries. You’ll dive into challenging payroll issues, problem-solve, offering recommendations, execute changes, understand long service leave across Australia as well as the processing of superannuation and reconciling payments when needed.
Responsibilities include:
- Support the daily operations of the Payroll team by assessing BAU workloads and ensuring team are on top of daily allocated tasks.
- Coach, mentor, and develop Payroll Officers and Payroll Administrators based around Australia and New Zealand, including monthly performance conversations.
- Process Payroll tax and superannuation payments monthly.
- Be up to date with current legislation requirements for terminations and other payroll related calculations.
- Act as the contact person for all ABS returns.
- Identify and help to implement process improvements across the Payroll function and assist the Payroll Leadership Team on implementing change with the whole team.
This hybrid, permanent opportunity will be based in Rhodes where you’ll work 2-3 days per week. Parking is available onsite, and a train line is nearby.
ABOUT YOU
- A seasoned Payroll expert with experience from a large multi-site business with locations across Australia and ideally New Zealand as well, you’re known as the go to person for operational queries and your understanding of complex payroll matters such as payroll tax and superannuation.
- You have experience leading a Payroll team or acting as a ‘Task Manager’ where you have allocated work and managed team member performance.
- In depth knowledge of all eight Long Service Leave Acts and legislations.
- Expertise to an advanced level with Microsoft Excel.
- Positive attitude with a natural ability to coach, upskill and mentor a team while also encourage self-learning. This is not only something you are good at, but you love and helps you to thrive!
