About the service:

The Medicare Mental Health Services are free and you do not need an appointment, referral or Medicare card to visit a Medicare Mental Health Centre. The new services in Devonport, Burnie and Outer Hobart are co-funded by the Australian and Tasmanian Governments, to provide a streamlined approach to support better mental health and social wellbeing across the country.

The service is tailored to the needs of the community in Tasmania and provides a combination of peer-led recovery and clinical support.

The Medicare Mental Health Centre provides a safe, welcoming and supportive environment for people experiencing psychological distress, allowing them to:

  • Identify alternatives to presenting to the Emergency Department
  • Access support from trained mental health professionals within their community

Role Overview:

  • Deliver quality psychosocial assessment, low-intensity brief intervention treatment and evaluation
  • Brief Intervention Model of care; up to 6 sessions for mild-moderate, short term, goal orientated focused psychological therapy and generalist counselling.
  • Participate as a member of the Medicare Mental Health Centre clinical team in providing comprehensive mental health assessment, case coordination, intervention or group work as required; with specific responsibility to provide Brief Interventions
  • Complete Intake Assessments as required

 

Requirements:

  • Must have one of the following: Social Worker with AASW registration/eligibility, Counsellor with Level 2 PACFA or ACA registration, General or Provisional AHPRA registration as a Psychologist, Mental Health Occupational Therapist, Mental Health Nurse.
  • Demonstrated highly competent level of knowledge and skill to undertake routine clinical practice with a comprehensive understanding within the continuum of care.
  • Demonstrated ability to participate in a multidisciplinary team utilising comprehensive communication skills to establish effective partnerships and provide consultation to the team as well as government and other non-government service providers.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to the professional development of self and others through education, professional networking and application of evidence based practice.
  • Demonstrating a comprehensive level of profession specific knowledge, expertise and skill; specifically Brief Intervention Models of Care
  • Must be eligible to apply/currently hold a WWCC
  • Must hold/be willing to apply for NDIS worker screening clearance
