About the service:

headspace Townsville delivers high quality evidence-based clinical care to achieve better health outcomes for young people aged 12-25 years. Our multidisciplinary team supports young people in the Townsville region by providing support for mental health, physical health, alcohol and other drug use, and getting into work and study.

headspace Townsville offers a number of evidence based mental health and wellbeing treatments that range from low intensity brief interventions through to high intensity long-term interventions. These include:

  •  ‘One-At-A-Time supports’ when young people may only be needing a few sessions with a clinician to work on current stressors or concerns.
  • Moderate intensity medium-term individual and group therapy when young people may need a few more sessions to work on specific concerns such as anxiety, depression or other mental health difficulties.
  • A dedicated suicide prevention program (You Are Not Alone – YANA) that provides time-limited high intensity interventions for young people who are experiencing suicidal thoughts and behaviours.
  • A dedicated trauma program (‘Tern’ program) that provides recovery focused long-term high intensity interventions for young people who have experienced multiple traumas throughout their lives.


Role overview:

The headspace Clinical Manager reports directly to the headspace Centre Manager and is responsible for the provision of clinical leadership and management to the centre team members at headspace Townsville. The focus of this role is on the day-to-day delivery of excellence in quality care provision, ensuring all clinical governance and compliance targets are implemented and met, as well as supporting innovation and quality improvement to ensure evidence-based outcomes for young people and family and friends accessing the service.

Requirements:

  • A tertiary qualification with specialty training in Mental Health (Social Work, Psychology, Occupational Therapy, Nursing), with minimum of five years’ experience
  • General AHPRA registration as a Psychologist, Clinical Psychologist, Mental Health Occupational Therapist OR Mental Health Nurse OR AASW registration as an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker
  • Demonstrated expertise in the management of a multi-disciplinary service delivery team including the ability to lead the coordination of care for young people with complex needs including consultation and engagement with a wide range of professionals
  • Knowledge and understanding of the theory underpinning evidence-based interventions and clinical practice as well as demonstrated excellence in the practical application of such, in the areas of youth mental health and alcohol and drug use
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake assessment and initial screening activities to determine young person’s care needs, provide counselling, produce assessment reports, and assist clients to access necessary services
  • Advanced communication (including written) and people skills and the ability to engage with young people, advocate on their behalf and establish and maintain effective relationships with staff, clients, families & friends, and stakeholders
  • Ability to use a desktop computer, with familiarity with the Microsoft Windows environment and Microsoft Office applications and capacity to learn how to use a clinical software package for electronic client records
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver individual or group-based interventions to assist young people ‘further develop psychosocial functioning (e.g., life skills, anger management, problem solving, conflict resolution, etc)
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise, meet deadlines, work well under pressure, and manage communications and information with staff and private practitioners
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, problem solve and work flexibly and seek counsel where appropriate
  • Demonstrated ability to show innovation and flexibility to incorporate contemporary practice and enhance service delivery options to better meet client needs
  • A cheerful outlook that is youth responsive, respectful, inclusive, and enthusiastic
  • Must be eligible to apply/currently hold a Blue Card
  • Must hold/be willing to apply for NDIS worker screening clearance
  • This position requires the incumbent to operate a C class motor vehicle and an appropriate license endorsement to operate this type of vehicle is required. Proof of this endorsement must be provided before commencement of duty
