Our Simberi Operations consists of an open cut mine on the northernmost island in the Tabar group of islands in the province of New Ireland in Papua New Guinea. We are currently seeking a Manager Environment to join our team. This is a three-year fixed term full-time position at our Simberi Operation. Working a 21/14 FIFO Roster from any Australian capital city

Reporting to the Executive General Manager – Simberi Operations you will is responsible for managing environment through developing and maintaining key stakeholder relationships and ensuring the Simberi Operations meet all relevant internal and external environment and community related compliance obligations.

 The opportunity

  • Ensuring adherence to the Governance and internal control framework of the Environmental policies, standards and procedures across St Barbara.
  • Empowering Simberi management to identify, monitor, understand and manage key performance indicators.
  • Ensuring timely, accurate and standardised performance reporting that drives achievement of business objectives.
  • Empowering senior leadership to make value adding decisions through the provision of high-quality data and analytics.
  • Providing comprehensive Environmental updates to senior management by evaluating, analysing, and reporting appropriate operational data, engaging in developing and supporting short and long-term operational strategies.
  • Ensuring effective internal and external Environmental reporting.
  • Managing the collection, storage and interpretation of reliable Environmental data.
  • Protecting company assets and resources by monitoring, and enforcing internal controls over processes, reporting and information system controls
  • Environmental support functions for the site to maximise effectiveness and efficiency to achieve Simberi’s strategic goals.
  • Ensuring effective incident and emergency management at Simberi Operations.
  • Leading Performance variance analysis at Simberi.
  • Delivering a rigorous programme of Continuous Improvement and Operational Excellence for the Environmental Team.
  • Championing continuous Improvement within the business and create and facilitate opportunities for people to share knowledge and develop best practice.
  • Effectively leads, manages and develops a high calibre team of Environmental professionals who are recognised for their knowledge and advice and provide high quality advice.
  • Effectively leverage the Environmental team’s diverse skills, experience and knowledge and manage peak workloads to ensure all business service levels are met in full and on time.
  • Actively challenge thinking and provide astute recommendations on how to maximise returns and support St Barbara’s growth ambitions.
  • Managing effective use of available resources, including own time, in support of the delivery of the Simberi Environmental function.

  • Degree in Environmental Management or Environmental Science.
  • Extensive Environmental experience in a mining operation.
  • Strong communication skills, including communicating with people from different backgrounds and cultures.
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines on multiple tasks.
  • High level of enthusiasm for the work with high performance goals.
  • Commercial acumen relevant to the role.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise.
  • Proactive with an ability to work with minimal supervision.
