We are currently seeking a Fitter Machinist to join our team. permanent full-time position at our Simberi Operation. Your work location is Papua New Guinea, working a 15/13 Roster from Kavieng/Rabaul/Port Moresby/Lae/Mt Hagen/Buka/Madang/Goroka/Alotau/Wapenamanda/Popondetta/ Hoskins or Tabar group of Islands. (Locals are encouraged to apply).

Reporting to the Fixed Plant Maintenance Superintendent.  

The Fitter Machinist is to provide support in mechanical maintenance of Fixed Plant Equipment (as designated), while ensuring health, safety, environmental, community relations and quality workmanship standards are maintained, all for the best value. Ensure adherence to statutory requirements as a minimum standard.

The opportunity

  • Identify root causes of mechanical breakdowns.
  • Implement permanent repairs.
  • Troubleshoot all plant equipment to ensure improved productivity and safety.
  • Install new plant, equipment and pipe work including automated machinery.
  • Perform polyurethane fabrication duties to carry out repairs or to enhance plant equipment.
  • Maintain high housekeeping standards within personal work area.
  • Achieve maximum levels of machine uptime through efficient and effective maintenance of plant & equipment and project work associated with new installations.
  • Identification and action of safety issues affecting the workplace.
  • Communicate and report mechanical activities to the Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Carry out other operational tasks as required.

We would love to hear from you if you have​:

  • Behaviour consistent with St Barbara’s Values
  • Technical Trades Qualification in Mechanical Fitting.
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in fixed plant, including upgrading, maintaining, and repairing.
  • Understand relevant engineering standards and associated procedures.
  • Ability to read equipment manuals and follow instruction.
  • Pneumatics and hydraulics experience.
  • Familiar with the maintenance of large pumps, gearboxes, valves, grinding mills, lubrication systems, hydraulics, and hoses.
  • Self-motivated and disciplined with strong communication skills and the ability to effectively manage time.
  • A continuous improvement approach to all tasks and developing initiative and problem-solving skills.
  • Have extensive field experience and always prepared to accept responsibility.
