The Role

Reporting to the Mobile Maintenance Superintendent; the HV Mechanic Fitter will provide Mechanical Maintenance of Mobile Plant Equipment (as designated), while ensuring health, safety, environmental, community relations and quality workmanship standards are maintained, all for the best value. Ensure adherence to statutory requirements as a minimum standard.

This is a FIFO position; the roster is a 15/13 roster. Point of Hire is restricted to Kavieng/Rabaul/Port Moresby/Lae/Mt Hagen or Tabar group of Islands. (Locals are encouraged to apply)

Key responsibilities include:

Technical Accountabilities

  • Ensure you have a commitment to “safe production” and the environment
  • Ensure accuracy with attention to detail
  • Working as a contributing team member towards the Maintenance Department’s objectives
  • Having the ability to work with a minimum of supervision
  • Ensuring you have Trustworthiness and social ability
  • Ensuring you can comprehend and execute directives
  • Complying with Company policies and procedures in particular safe work procedures.
  • Providing ‘Risk Managing your Day’ by shift planning, risk tools, assessing potential and escalation.

Scheduling accountabilities

  • Managing effective use of available resources, including own time, in support of the delivery of the Mobile Plant team/crew.

  People accountabilities

  • Ensuring you are using established training methods and in conjunction with the Training Department train subordinates to achieve competency in the area identified and within the scope of their position
  • Participating in training provided by the business
  • Assisting to organise the duties of the mining engineering personnel to ensure that they are carried out safely and satisfactorily
  • Ensure you report any undesired events, unsafe practices or near misses to your direct supervisor immediately.
  • Complying with established OH&S policies and practices
  • Taking responsibility for reporting of incidents, including any injury or near miss to the OH&S Department and Safety Committee in a timely manner
  • Complying with established environmentally sustainable measures so as to not adversely impact on   the natural fauna, flora, fresh water resources and marine life within the bounds of Simberi Island
  • Ensuring you are at work on time and be fit for work

Qualifications, Skills and Experience required:

  • Behaviour consistent with St Barbara’s Values
  • Have a trade certificate in Heavy Vehicle Fitting/Mechanics
  • Mechanical Trade Qualifications in motor 
  • Experience with maintaining or repairing mobile plant equipment.
  • Experience on a mining mobile plant.
  • Understand relevant engineering standards and associated procedures
  • Senior First Aid
  • Drivers Licence
