We are currently seeking a Contracts & Procurement Superintendent to join our team. This is a three-year max term full time position at our Simberi Operation. Your work location is Papua New Guinea, working a 21/14 FIFO Roster from any Australian capital city.
Reporting to the Manager Commercial you will lead the site-based contracts management & performance, as well as the sourcing and procurement function for Simberi operations. Delivering sustainable value to the operations through developing strong stakeholder and local and site-specific supplier relationships and providing guidance for procurement compliance.
The opportunity
- Measuring and managing key contract performance ensuring consistency with expectations while mitigating risk of underperformance for Simberi.
- Promoting the building and maintenance ERP catalogue content to encourage self-sourcing by requisitioners, maximise purchasing power, and to support cost control.
- Maintaining a sustainable approach to contract management and supplier relationship management (SRM) for strategic site related contracts by measuring and ensuring agreements relating to price, quality of service and delivery guidelines are honoured, mitigating risk of underperformance.
- Initiating, leading, and driving outcomes for procurement projects, using should cost modelling and fact-based negotiations to deliver the best Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) outcomes while mitigating risk in line with Procurement processes.
- Supporting the capital project requirements ensuring early stakeholder engagement and involvement in the capital budgeting process for Simberi.
- Supporting the preparation of Procurement related performance and activity reports, ensuring accuracy of information and data.
- Providing trusted and fact-based commercial expertise to the business while adhering to and promoting adherence to Procurement Governance and best practice standards, policies and processes.
- Establishing and maintaining best practice operational processes and procedures for the Simberi Procurement function and ensuring that the site is compliant with St Barbara’s procurement policies.
- Ensuring best practice Procurement governance is in line with Company objectives, addressing non-compliance trends by leading internal stakeholders through strategic sourcing processes.

We would love to hear from you if you have:
- Relevant qualification in Contracts Management, Logistics & Procurement
- Ability to produce a National Police Certificate.
- Current unencumbered 'C' Class Driver's Licence.
- Strong relevant end to end contracts management & procurement experience
- Experience within the mining and resources sector.
- Demonstrated experience in successfully executing procurement plans, driving outcomes for operational sites and corporate objectives.
- Strong interpersonal, influencing and communication skills, with demonstrated ability to develop and maintain productive working relationships with site personnel, suppliers and customers.
- Ability to successfully manage multiple competing priorities and reconciling these with the longer-term procurement objectives.
- Demonstrated capability in leading a small team, organising work of others, setting priorities and exercising sound independent judgement.
- Strong commercial acumen as well as numerical and analytical skills.
- Previous expat experience in a developing country & challenging environment would be desirable.
