We are currently seeking a Travel Supervisor to join our team on a permanent full-time position at our Simberi Operation. Your work location is Papua New Guinea, working a 21/14 Roster from Kavieng, Rabaul, Port Moresby, Lae, Mt Hagen, Madang, Goroka, Alotau, Wapenamanda, Popondetta, Hoskins, Vanimo or Tabar group of Islands. (Locals are encouraged to apply).

Reporting to the Travel Superintendent.   

The Travel Supervisor is primarily responsible for supervising the management of Travel and Hotel Accommodation Bookings which is the control source for making travel arrangements, enforcing the company travel policy, and helping with the administration of domestic and international travel bookings and company charter. 

The opportunity 

Technical accountabilities

  • Undertake arrangement and booking of all SGCL employees, contractor and visitor flights including local and international charters, local and international airlines as well as any other mode of transport as directed.
  • Undertake arrangement and booking of all necessary and applicable accommodation locally and internationally as required.
  • Prepare and distribute, in a timely fashion, all necessary itineraries for flights and accommodation in relation to the above.
  •  Identifies and enforces corporate travel policies and procedures to improve workflow efficiency and cost savings in overall operation.
  •  Determines best booking procedure based on cost savings and communicates itinerary and instructions to senior staff and employees in accordance with agreed practice.
  •  Preparation and filing of all flight related manifests, consignment notes and flight documentation.
  •  Preparation and distribution of all flight and charter schedules.
  •  Pick up and transport of all personnel, baggage, and freight to and from the Simberi accommodation camp and Simberi airstrip.
  •  All other travel and accommodation related work as directed.

  • Actively participate and promote a safe working environment.
  • Actively participate in departmental safety meetings and display a safe attitude.
  • Competent, accurate and time-based record keeping.
  • Punctual attendance for all rostered shifts. 

People accountabilities

  • Using established training methods and in conjunction with the Training Department train subordinates to achieve competency in the area identified and within the scope of their position.
  • Participate in training provided by the business.

Essential

  •  Behaviour consistent with St Barbara’s Values
  • Previous experience working in the mining industry.
  • Previous experience in the travel industry.
  •  Must have current Driver’s Licence.
  • Working knowledge of travel policies and procedures.
  • Aircraft handling/loading/refuelling procedures.
  • Excellent PC skills including word processing, spreadsheet applications and internet functions.
  • Excellent organization, planning and supervisory skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including oral and written communication.

Desirable

  • Physically fit and healthy.
  • Prepared to work outside normal hours as required.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision
