We are currently seeking a Senior Mine Surveyor to join our Technical Services team. This is a 3-year max term full time position at our Simberi Operation. Your work location is Papua New Guinea, working a 21/14 FIFO Roster from any Australian capital city.

Reporting to the Technical Services Superintendent you will be responsible for leading the mine survey team to provide best practice survey services to the site, whilst ensuring statutory compliance and maintaining standard for the surveying.

 The opportunity

  • Managing and mentoring the survey team to deliver pit design, set outs, topographic surveys/scanning, accurate volume calculation and reporting.
  • Managing end of month survey activities including drone surveys, volume calculations, validation and reporting in an accurate and timely.
  • Liaising with Mine Engineering, Geology and Mine Operations personnel in providing survey assistance where required.
  • Performing EDM Total Station and GPS surveys to accurate tolerance for all control network surveys, general pickups and set outs.
  • Performing UAV surveys on all the mine’s infrastructure as-builts and generating maps accurately.
  • Applying correct use of RTK GPS system, monitoring survey base station movement and performing site calibration if required.
  • Ensuring compliance surveys to pit, stockpile and ramp designs are carried out and reported accordingly.
  • Managing the mine survey database, hardware, and software systems by ensuring all filing procedures are observed.
  • Responsible for survey pickup of Open Pit as built for quarterly pit-sections MRA submissions every year.
  • Providing technical guidance to the operation as well as the business.
  • Seeking operational cost saving opportunities as part of the mine survey process.

 We would love to hear from you if you have​:

  • Tertiary qualification in Surveying.
  • Certificate IV Training & Assessing would be desirable.
  • Current unencumbered 'C' Class Driver's Licence.
  • Extensive experience in a similar role in the mining or resources sector.
  • Strong communication skills, including communication with people from different backgrounds and cultures.
  • Demonstrated experience using state of the art Total Station, GPS, and UAV surveying equipment.
  • Must have worked with Minesight, Deswik and other Mine Planning CAD system.
  • Experience in working with Agisoft, Trimble Business Center, AutoCivil3D and other GIS CAD system is desirable.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise.
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines on multiple tasks.
  • Strong analytical & critical thinking skills.
  • High level of enthusiasm for the work with high performance goals.
  • Previous expat experience in a developing country & challenging environment would be desirable.
