We are currently seeking a Fixed Plant Technical Specialist to join our team. This is a three-year max term full time position at our Simberi Operation. Your work location is Papua New Guinea, working a 21/14 FIFO Roster from any Australian capital city.
Reporting to the Fixed Plant Superintendent you will assist in the supervision and on the job training for Fixed Plant Maintenance tradespeople to safely achieve maximum plant throughput from ore delivered to the ROM in a manner consistent with the Company’s vision and values.
The opportunity
- Assisting the Mechanical Supervisors to ensure the fixed plant maintenance function delivers to plan in respect of production, availability, and cost per tonne.
- Passing on your technical knowledge to the national workforce to upskill and develop skill and knowledge of mechanical repairs in the Fixed Plant.
- Assisting Mechanical Supervisors with co-ordinating the installation, maintenance and repairing of all mechanical systems and equipment of the Process Plant and ensure minimal disruption to plant operations to avoid downtime.
- Ensuring timely, accurate reporting of fixed plant maintenance function performance to the Manager Engineering and other internal and external parties
- Identifying potential mechanical problems and implement effective preventative, predictive and reliability maintenance and record the mechanical maintenance activities for subsequent technical reporting as required.
- Co-ordinating breakdown repairs whenever required and show initiative in identifying opportunities to improve plant and machinery performance. This includes being available for callout during the night to assist the night shift team.
- Ensuring periodic preventative maintenance inspections of all mechanical instruments, equipment, diagnosing of existing or potential trouble.
- Regularly reviewing and monitoring compliance with safe work systems and mechanical procedures.
- Providing advice to the Maintenance Management team on any anticipated down time or delays.
- Attending breakdowns or callouts after hours to provide support and ensure all breakdowns or delays are repaired in a timely manner as per the scheduled roster.

We would love to hear from you if you have:
- Certificate III Heavy Vehicle Mechanical Technology or similar
- Current unencumbered 'C' Class Driver's Licence.
- Extensive experience in the mining sector.
- Certificate IV Training & Assessing would be desirable.
- A proven track record of continuous improvement in operations and maintenance.
- Knowledge of relevant PNG mining legislation and regulations.
- Strong ability to work effectively within a team.
- Strong communication skills, including communicating with people from different backgrounds and cultures.
- Ability to work to tight deadlines on multiple tasks.
- High level of enthusiasm for the work with high-performance goals.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise.
- Proactive with an ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Previous expat experience in a developing country & challenging environment would be desirable.
