We are currently seeking a Inventory Controller to join our team. permanent full-time position at our Simberi Operation. Your work location is Papua New Guinea, working a 15/13 Roster from Kavieng/Rabaul/Port Moresby/Lae/Mt Hagen/Buka/Madang/Goroka/Alotau/Wapenamanda/Popondetta/ Hoskins/ Vanimo/ Wewak or Tabar group of Islands. Reporting to the Supervisor – Logistics & Warehouse.
The Inventory Controller will effectively provide inventory, stock control and logistics admin function to ensure the timely and cost-effective provision of all goods and services required for all company requirements.
The opportunity
Technical accountabilities
- Inventory & Accounting Control.
- Stock Control.
- Responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing activities associated with stock.
- Control, including monitoring and controlling of stock levels, establishing, and maintaining.
- Stocktake procedures, documenting and reporting on inventories according to stores policies and procedures.
- Involve with development and compliance in relation to stores policies and procedures on inventory control including receipts of goods from suppliers, dispatch of goods to field sites.
- Update monthly inventory reconciliation sheet and perform monthly stock reconciliation for all variances are investigated.
- Report progress and issues to Lead Management Coordinator and ensure issues are resolved.
- Collate data for preparation. Ensures assumptions and justifications behind estimates are clearly documented.
- Makes certain that accruals are submitted in accordance with Controllers guidelines.
- Works well with other staff in the department to ensure expenditure are monitored and unbudgeted expenditures are categorized, justified, and reviewed with management.
- Responsibility to submit monthly, quarterly, and annual financial and manpower reports to Management.
- Report progress and issues to Lead Information Management Coordinator and ensure issues are resolved.
- Understand and apply quality control techniques as per Company’s Accounting Policies and good accounting practice.
- Have experience in Accounting Systems.
- Have experience in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Understand and demonstrate effective and efficient use of all Company provided systems.
- Makes certain that accruals are submitted in accordance with Controllers guidelines.
- Ensures budget are carefully monitored, coded to the right cost centres/cost elements, managed, and controlled to prevent over-runs/under-runs and variances are brought to Manager’s attention. At a minimum, monthly review with Manager is required.
- Participates in implementation of systems to identify and eliminate control weakness.
Scheduling accountabilities
- Ensure that all reporting required meets the legislative standards and is completed and distributed on time.
- Provide input for the work unit for budget preparation process.
- Promote and adhere to the company’s internal methodologies, policies, procedures, and standards by consistently maintaining a high quality of work across all allocated functions.
- Interpret legislation, government standards and agreements. Provide input/informed commentary, improvement opportunities and areas of risk to management.
- Be accountable for the quality of work output from the unit/department through an ongoing monitoring and audit process.
- Ensure compliance with all statutory and company standards through training and development of staff and promoting by example.
- This position will oversee development projects, control, and direct project status, initiate corrective action to deliver projects on time at cost by ensuring project compliance and quality while identifying improvement opportunities.
- ]Ensure all administration functions and tasks associated with the position are undertaken and completed in a timely and efficient manner.
- Identify training requirements of subordinates through consultation with the employees and the Simberi Gold Company Training Department
- Using established training methods and in conjunction with the Training Department train subordinates to achieve competency in the area identified and within the scope of their position.
- Participate in training provided by the business.
- Organise the duties of the Logistics & Warehouse department personnel to ensure that they are carried out safely and satisfactorily.
- The incumbent in charge of the Logistics & Warehouse department and engine crew and safety and working standards, including the correct operation of all machinery.
- Record and report any undesired events, unsafe practices or near misses to the Capitan.
- Comply with established OH&S policies and practices.
- Take responsibility for reporting of incidents, including any injury or near miss to the OH&S Department and Safety Committee in a timely manner.
- Regularly communicate with subordinates regarding new OH&S initiatives and OH&S statistics.
- Work with and develop the community through support of company initiatives.
People accountabilities
- Ensure staff resources are maximised and staff members undertake appropriate training and development, so they are skilled efficiently to perform allocated duties.
- Overview, provide direction and act as a technical reference point and mentor for staff while ensuring work outputs are in line with strategic and business plans.
- Be responsible for implementing and ongoing monitoring of performance and development review plans for all direct reports.
- Be accountable for the initiation of any disciplinary action or reward recognition for staff under direct supervision within the work unit.
- Promote and adhere to Occupational Health and Safety Policy and Procedures through consistently demonstrating and encouraging safe work practices.
- Comply with established environmentally sustainable measures to not adversely impact on the natural fauna, flora, freshwater resources, and marine life within the bounds of Simberi Island

- Minimum Grade 12 education.
- Excellent PC skills with experience using electronic accounting systems, stores management, cataloguing, inventory and receipting computer systems.
- Minimum 3-4 years’ experience working in the mining industry.
- Current Driver’s license and forklift ticket.
- Ability to plan work effectively and efficiently with a minimum of supervision and to set priorities.
- Punctual attendance for all rostered shifts.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment with other staff members to achieve stated responsibilities and duties.
- Actively participate and promote a safe working environment, participate in Departmental safety meetings, and display a safety conscience attitude in accordance with the OH&S policies and procedures, and safe working practices.
- Good written and verbal skills, ability to provide reports to management on product purchases.
- Awareness of standards, safety and general mining products, equipment, and consumables.
- Prepared to work out of hours and shift work as required.
