We are currently seeking an Ancillary HE Fitter to join our team on a permanent full-time position at our Simberi Operation. Your work location is Papua New Guinea, working a 21/14 Roster from Kavieng, Rabaul, Port Moresby, Lae, Mt Hagen, Buka, Madang, Goroka, Alotau, Wapenamanda, Popondetta, Hoskins, Wewak, Vanimo or Tabar group of Islands. (Locals are encouraged to apply).

Reporting to the Mobile Maintenance Foreman.   

The Ancillary HE Fitter is responsible to provide Mechanical Maintenance of Ancillary Equipment (as designated), while ensuring health, safety, environmental, community relations and quality workmanship standards are maintained, all for the best value. Ensure adherence to statutory requirements as a minimum. 

The opportunity 

Technical accountabilities

  • Ensuring safe work practices, own health and safety and of all other workers by identifying hazards and ensuring issues and risks are reported and addressed.
  • Complete tasks to ensure the department reaches safety and equipment performance targets.
  • Ensuring all statutory requirements of the role are met around ancillary equipment including classified plant.
  • Ensuring all tasks are carried out in an environmentally sustainable manner.
  • Contributing productively as a member of the Simberi Maintenance Team.
  • Work to reduce unplanned breakdowns and re-work.
  • Thorough record keeping.
  • Compilation and adherence to JHAs, SWPs and SOPs. 

Scheduling accountabilities

  • Managing effective use of available resources, including own time, in support of the delivery of the team/crew.

People accountabilities

  • Contributing to the development of capability within the team/crew.

Essential

  • Behaviour consistent with St Barbara’s Values
  • Ensuring an excellent attendance record is kept
  • Current unrestricted PNG Driver Licence
  • Heavy vehicle Mechanical or Auto Electrical Trade Certificate
  • Minimum 4 years industry experience
  • Strong ability to work effectively within a team
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines on multiple tasks
  • High level of enthusiasm for the work with high performance goals

Desirable

  • Certificate to perform dogging CPCCLDG3001A or RIIHAN208D.
  • Certificate to operate non- slew crane TLILIC3006A or RIIHAN212D.
  • Prepared to work out of hours as required.
  • Good attention to detail.
