We are currently seeking a Supervisor - Logistics & Warehouse to join our team, permanent full-time position at our Simberi Operation. Your work location is Papua New Guinea, working a 21/14 Roster from Kavieng, Rabaul, Port Moresby, Lae, Mt Hagen, Madang, Goroka, Alotau, Wapenamanda, Popondetta, Hoskins, Vanimo or Tabar group of Islands. (Locals are encouraged to apply).

Reporting to the Supervisor - Supply.   

The Supervisor - Logistics & Warehouse is responsible to manage and oversee all day-to-day operational activities of warehousing and logistics functions performed by the Supply department, including the safe discharge and backload of supply and fuel vessels supporting the operation; additionally, the allocation of equipment and personnel to conduct stores movement across the SGCL operation, including stores delivered by air. 


The opportunity

Technical accountabilities

  • Ensuring own Health & Safety as well as that of all other workers, identifying and maintaining safe work practices and completing all required safety training.
  • Managing the day-to-day warehouse and logistics operations.
  • Ensuring appropriate supervision of all Supply staff to ensure warehouse and logistics functions achieve departmental, site and company objectives.
  • Leading by example to ensure best operational procedures for warehouse, logistics and supply services are adhered to.
  • Ensuring actions directly affecting operational objectives are completed within expected timelines, in accordance with SGCL and corporate policy.
  • Supervising Inventory Controllers and warehouse personnel to ensure cyclical and monthly stocktakes are conducted in accordance with the approved schedule, providing guidance in the resolution of any discrepancies, reporting all anomalies to the Supply Supervisor for final review and action.
  • Proactively review and ensure Departmental operations are compliant with safety standards and legislation, as promulgated by the Supply Superintendent.
  • Investigate and seek out alterative solutions, providing appropriate documentation and feedback to Supply Supervisor for action.
  • Ensuring staff comply with process and procedures relating to the security of stores and equipment.
  • Conducting reviews, departmental policy and procedures making recommendations for improvement where necessary.
  • Ensuring pre-starts for all Departmental equipment are completed in accordance with SGCL policy and reporting any faults in the maintenance system for rectification.
  • Monitoring and supervision of personnel to ensure minimal waste of resources.
  • Directly supervise and manage all stevedoring operations when discharging supply vessels, including creation and communication of appropriate JHA to site stevedores, operators and ship’s crew.
  • Maintaining fuel distribution across throughout supply infrastructure to ensure continued operation and the Power generators and fuel distribution point.
  • Ensuring bunkering operations are completed in accordance with relevant maritime and policy requirements, maintaining duel rostered personnel during night bunkering operations.
  • Maintaining continued contact with all marine traffic within the Simberi Island area, updating the Supply Superintendent as required to ensure shipping activities are completed in accordance with operational need.
  • Conduction weekly review and assessment of all containers on site, providing data to the Supply Supervisor for action.
  • Preparing all backload reports and delivering to relevant departments and organizations within 48 hours of vessel departure, ensuring relevant documentation accompanies stores.
  • Preparing Vessel Departure Logs for each vessel and providing to the Supply and the Logistics Superintendents within 2 hours of vessel departure.
  • Daily upload of all fuel issues physically completed by the Fuel Hand, so that equipment consumption can be monitored.
  • Ensuring cyanide containers are located within the ‘Cyanide Storage Bay’ and are only moved to the plant’s cyanide storage shed when necessary.
  • Direct training of all new personnel, ensuring awareness of all safety requirements, additional PPE need to complete tasks (gas detectors, masks, lightening detectors), to minimize the risk of injury or damage to equipment. 

Scheduling accountabilities

  • Managing effective use of available resources, including own time, in support of the delivery of the warehousing and logistics crews.
  • Attending meetings as designated by the Supply Superintendent and Supervisor from time to time.
  • Ensuring morning pre-starts are conducted in accordance with SGCL directives and ensure personnel rotation for the conduct of the meetings.

Essential

  • Proficient in PRONTO system as it relates to inventory, warehousing and shipping modules.
  • At least 5 years relevant mining or utilities experience.
  • Strong ability to work effectively within a team.
  • Strong communication skills, including communicating with people from different backgrounds and cultures.
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines on multiple tasks.
  • High level of enthusiasm for the work with high performance goals.
  • Bunkering operations qualifications/certificates.
