Dental Hygienist

About The Location:

Lavarack Health Centre is located in Townsville at Lavarack Barracks, the largest Army base in Australia. The health centre provides primary medical, underwater medical, surgical outpatient, dental, nursing, physiotherapy, mental health, and pharmaceutical care to members. The standard operating hours are 0700-1630 Monday – Friday.

About The Role:
 

• Fulltime – 38 hours
• $60 p/h
• Operate in a largely independent role
• Relocation Support

Primary Duties:

• Perform dental cleanings, including scaling, polishing, and fluoride treatments
• Take and develop dental X-rays as needed
• Conduct patient examinations, assessing oral health and hygiene needs
• Educate patients on proper oral hygiene techniques and preventive care
• Apply sealants and fluoride treatments to protect teeth
• Record patient medical and dental histories
• Sterilize dental instruments and maintain a clean and organized workspace
• Provide advice on diet and lifestyle factors affecting oral health
• Maintain accurate patient records and follow infection control procedures
• Ensure the optimal hygiene of the dental surgery

Mandatory Requirements:

• Australian Citizenship and ability to obtain a Defence Baseline Security Clearance
• Unrestricted AHPRA registration as a Dental Hygienist or Oral Therapist
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience (full-time equivalent) within the last 5 years
• Current First Aid (HLTAID011) and CPR (HLTAID009) certification
