Make an impact at Serco

As a Health Care Assistant in our Health team, you’ll contribute to improving the wellbeing of prisoners at Auckland South Corrections Facility. You will support the Registered Nurse in delivering quality healthcare and play a vital role in ensuring cultural safety, including the application of mātauranga Māori principles. Your role will positively impact prisoner rehabilitation and help us achieve better outcomes for Māori.

As a Health Care Assistant in the Health team, you’ll make a positive impact by:

  • Supporting the Registered Nurse in patient care and daily living activities
  • Assisting with medication administration, observations, and wound care
  • Promoting patient safety, independence, and advocating for patient needs
  • Helping to maintain a clean, safe workplace in the medical centre
  • Communicating observations of at-risk patients to the RN and documenting accurately

To be successful in this role you’ll have:

  • Health Care Assistant NZQA Level 3 qualification
  • At least 12 months of experience in an acute or emergency setting
  • Understanding of the Treaty of Waitangi and cultural competency
  • Strong communication and time management skills
  • Compassionate, non-judgmental attitude with a focus on patient advocacy
  • Initiative, reliability, and the ability to work in a challenging environment
