We are currently seeking a qualified and experienced Catering Assistant with kitchen hand experience to join the team at our Villawood Immigration Detention Centre based in NSW on a full-time basis. The successful candidate will report to the Catering Manager and will ensure the smooth and successful operation of the food service process, whilst complying with all food hygiene regulations. Good knife skills are essential as is the ability to perform general cleaning tasks.
This role is physically demanding, and you will be required to constantly lift and bend, push and pull stock. This is a full-time position working on a rotating roster which covers the hours of 11:00am – 8pm. You will work up to a 10-day fortnight which can include weekends and public holidays.
As a Catering Assistant, you’ll make a positive impact by:
- Maintaining stock levels, receiving deliveries, and handling invoices accurately
- Preparing and serving meals that are wholesome, nutritious, and well-presented
- Following health, hygiene, and safety protocols, keeping all areas clean and compliant
- Assisting with catering for special events and ensuring service meets cultural needs
- Ensuring high standards of personal hygiene and professional presentation at all times

To be successful in this role you will have:
- The highest levels of personal integrity and ethical behaviour
- Minimum Certificate II in Kitchen Operations (SIT20312) or equivalent qualification
- Basic Food Hygiene / Food Safety Handling Certificate
- Demonstrated experience with basic kitchen processes and food preparation
- Ability to assist the Catering Manager and Chefs in preparation of the daily menu
- Ensure all tasks are performed in a timely manner and comply with internal policy and legislative requirements
- Understanding of OHS and management of hazards
