Counsellor (Women, Children & Young People)
About Ruah
Ruah is a leading values-driven employer in Western Australia’s community services sector. Our staff go boldly, not just supporting people in need, but working to end homelessness, end domestic violence and create opportunities for people struggling with poverty and mental health challenges.
Our professional team of operational and corporate services staff is backed by one of WA’s biggest Peer support workforces. Our staff reflect our commitment to diversity and inclusion, where difference is valued, celebrated and embraced.
By choosing to work with us, you are helping transform the lives of vulnerable and disadvantaged people in our community.
About the Role
Ruah is proud to be developing the Karlup Service, a holistic, wraparound recovery-based model aimed at supporting women and children to heal from family and domestic violence. The Karlup Service will provide a range of offerings from the Angela Wright Bennett Centre (AWBC), a state-of-the-art purpose-built facility in Perth’s CBD.
The Karlup Service Women, Children & Young Person Counselling Offering recognises that the health and wellbeing of children and young people who have experienced family and domestic violence, either directly or as witnesses to the abuse of their mother, is significantly impacted. Children and young people growing up in homes where there is FDV are more vulnerable to other forms of abuse such as neglect, sexual abuse, and physical abuse. They are also more likely to be perpetrators or victims of FDV in adulthood.
As a member of a multi-disciplinary team, the Counsellor will create safety for the woman, child or young person by building trust and providing a safe place to explore their experiences and express their emotions. The Counsellor will support women, children and young people to address behaviours and beliefs that may indicate they are vulnerable to becoming victims or perpetrators of family and domestic violence in the future.
We are seeking someone to fulfill this role on a permanent full-time basis, working 38 hours per week.
