About the Role
Inspire is the Fiona Stanley Hospital Mental Health Service. This service provides Lived Experience Mental Health and Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) Peer Workers as part of a multidisciplinary team to support consumers, carers, and families while in the hospital.
Safe Haven at Royal Perth Hospital provides a calm, gentle and quiet space where people can receive early intervention mental health distress management and problem solving support from both Peer workers with Lived Experience, and clinical support staff.
Peer Workers provide a unique perspective and offer hope to individuals on their recovery journey by showing that recovery is possible. Through shared understanding, Peer Workers help people feel supported, connect, grow resilience and enhance wellbeing.
Required compliance documents:
- Current drivers’ license.
- National Police Clearance Certificate within the last 12 months
- WA Working with Children Check
- National Police Certificate
- Hospital required vaccinations (Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR), Varicella (Chickenpox), Hepatitis B and Pertussis/Diphtheria/Tetanus). The successful candidate will receive the hospital screening form containing all the details regarding vaccinations.
There are additional vaccination requires for hospital sites that will be discussed during onboarding.
What we’re looking for
As well as the above documentation, we will be looking for:
- Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work (alternatively, at least 75% completion).
- Willingness and ability to work within and contribute to the vision, mission, core values and the three guiding principles of the organisation
- Lived experience of recovery from mental health and/or a Cultural peer perspective.
- Willingness to identify as a person with lived experience working in a Peer Support role.
- An understanding of Peer Work in a community setting.
- Openness to continuous quality improvement and learning in this role.
- A great attitude and commitment to your team, colleagues, clients, and the organisation.
- Ability to engage with individuals within different levels of needs and build and maintain a professional relationship
- Ability to work independently and contribute to the functioning of the team.
- Ability to model positive behaviours, emotional maturity, coping skills and resilience.
- Good interpersonal and effective communication skills.
- Sound understanding of Microsoft Office suite and client reporting system.
- Knowledge and understanding of diversity, gender and social inclusion, particularly Aboriginal culture.
