What You’ll Do
We are seeking a Management Accountant for a 12mth Fixed Term position who will be responsible for delivering high-quality financial management services, supporting strategic and operational decision-making, and enhancing the organization’s financial performance in a large project environment with a budget of over $14 billion. Reporting to the Lead Finance Business Partner you will lead the lodgement of budget submissions, financial statement budgets and forecasts in the whole of Government financial reporting systems throughout the financial year. Your key responsibilities will be:
- Take a lead role in preparing the published budget papers and related Estimates briefing notes.
- Proactively liaise with internal and external stakeholders to meet critical financial reporting deadlines for internal and external reporting.
- Build and maintain financial models, optimise existing models and monthly management reports to ensure accuracy across the 3-way model including variance analysis and trend forecasting.
- Identify performance improvement strategies and investigate process improvement opportunities to add value across finance and to the rest of the organisation.
- Collaborate with leadership teams and the Project Management Office to understand project requirements, financial implications and to provide efficient delivery of financial services.
- Work closely with key internal stakeholders to review and endorse changes to resourcing requirements across the project and ensure requirements are within budget.
- Provide support for financial accounting tasks, including month end, tax compliance, audit queries and reconciliation activities.
Who You Are
To be successful in this position, you will have a degree qualification in Finance, Accounting or another relevant discipline and a CPA or CA qualification. Your proven exposure to a major infrastructure project or a greenfield startup environment coupled with an awareness of Qld government financial management governance and reporting requirements will ensure your success. Additionally, you will have:
- A strong expertise in budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
- Advanced knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards, management accounting principles and financial modelling best practice.
- Proven ability to engage and influence stakeholders across all levels of an organization, and externally, with varying financial expertise.
- Expert MS Excel and financial modelling skills and familiarity with integrated accounting systems.
- Strong problem-solving skills, including identifying trends, cost drivers, and opportunities for financial improvement.
- Excellent time management and the ability to deliver accurate, high-quality reporting within tight deadlines.
