Queensland Hydro was established by the Queensland Government to deliver long-duration pumped hydro energy storage projects so we can transition to a stable renewable energy future.

Pumped hydro energy storage has a critical role in helping to meet the Queensland Government’s renewable energy targets and Australia’s Towards Net Zero goals by 2050. Queensland Hydro’s proposed pumped hydro energy storage projects can deliver the ultimate assurance for the State’s energy transition and play a defining role in securing a stable transition to renewable energy.

Purpose

The purpose of the Regional Development, Project Manager is to assist practical delivery outcomes and solutions for infrastructure and initiatives supporting the delivery of the Borumba Pumped Hydro Energy Storage Project, while considering expectations of the community and region.

Regional Development is the process of improvement of a region in terms of economic, environmental and social factors. The scale of our projects offers a rare opportunity to drive Regional Development outcomes in the Borumba and Pioneer Burdekin regions. 

The role

The Queensland Hydro Regional Development Team has carriage of several interrelated work streams:

  • Housing and Accommodation.
  • Community Infrastructure (including Direct Impact Mitigation and Tourism);
  • Utilities and Services.
  • Roads and Safety; and
  • Regional Capacity.

The role involves project managing the development and delivery of Community Infrastructure Master Plans for Queensland Hydro Projects, ensuring timely and budget-compliant execution. This includes transforming masterplan concepts into actionable construction requirements while fostering collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders, contractors, partners, and community groups.

A strong understanding of community infrastructure objectives is essential, as these objectives will support the outcomes and requirements of the Borumba PHES project. Additionally, the role entails assisting the Regional Development team with broader initiatives across five workstreams and proactively identifying and communicating opportunities to enhance support for the Borumba and Pioneer-Burdekin Project Teams.

About you

The ideal candidate should possess tertiary qualifications in project management, construction management, regional development with a delivery focus, or a related discipline, along with a current and valid Australian driver’s license. You should have experience managing projects in fast-paced and challenging environments, where multiple stakeholder requirements must be balanced.

The ability to effectively liaise with all levels of the business, community, government stakeholders, and technical specialists, tailoring communication to meet the needs of various audiences, is essential. Experience with hydro projects and familiarity with the electricity or renewable energy sectors is highly desirable, as is knowledge of regional development in Queensland, particularly within the Borumba and Pioneer-Burdekin regions

Additionally, the candidate should demonstrate highly developed planning skills, including a proven track record in developing policies, strategies, and capital works business cases.
