Queensland Hydro is a publicly owned entity established by the Queensland Government to design, deliver, operate and maintain long duration pumped hydro energy storage assets that will be the cornerstone for the transformation of the state’s energy system. 

The organisation will drive delivery of world-class pumped hydro assets to provide the long-term storage and reliability needed to power Queensland’s clean energy future. The organisation will play a critical role in assisting the Queensland Government to meet its renewable energy targets and net zero emissions by 2050, supporting the shift in the Australian economy to a decarbonised energy system. 

Purpose 

Reporting to the Performance Manager, the Package Cost Controller will maximize business outcomes by effectively controlling and monitoring package costs and forecasting against package budgets. This role offers a unique opportunity to provide analytical oversight, support, and guidance to project management on all matters related to cost management. You’ll collaborate closely with package planners/schedulers, the commercial/procurement team, PMO estimators, and Package/Project Managers. Integrity in cost management and reporting is paramount in this role. 

Key Accountabilities 

The key accountabilities include the following: 

  • Develop package baseline cost plans including risk and contingency allocations. 
  • In consultation with the Performance Manager, prepare monthly financial performance monitoring and reporting for relevant packages, including variance analysis, and advise Package leads on financial risks and appropriate resolutions. 
  • Work closely with Package leads to monitor budget utilisation, conduct package lifecycle analysis, and perform forecasting functions. 
  • Produce risk-assessed detailed financial forecasts at the package cost code level. Profile cost forecasts across the full lifecycle of each project into planned monthly cash flows. 
  • Ensure the integrity of project cost codes within the finance system and maintain appropriate coding structures in line with Queensland Hydro standards.  
  • Define and coordinate the development and implementation of management plans, procedures, guidelines, processes, and cost control systems required for the project. 
  • Ensure cost trend information is available to monitor and report project performance, initiating corrective or contingency actions where necessary. 
  • Prepare monthly financial performance monitoring and reporting, conduct variance analysis, and advise management on financial risks and appropriate resolutions. 

About you 

To be successful in this position, you will ideally possess,

  • Formal qualifications in Finance or Accounting, Construction or Commerce, Engineering or relevant professional experience within program and project cost control. 
  • Experience in monitoring, controlling, and reporting on program budgets within major project or program (PMO) environments. 
  • Ability to prepare and report on key program and project milestones. 
  • Ability to lead and mentor project cost controllers. 
  • Ability to oversee contractor reports and highlight non-compliance. 
  • Software Skills 
  • Contruent (PRISM G2) (preferred) or any equivalent cost management system 
  • ERP Systems (MYOB or SAP S4HAHA)
