About us

Queensland Hydro is a publicly owned entity established by the Queensland Government to design, deliver, operate and maintain long duration pumped hydro energy storage assets that will be the cornerstone for the transformation of the state’s energy system.

The organisation will drive delivery of world-class pumped hydro assets to provide the long-term storage and reliability needed to power Queensland’s clean energy future.

The organisation will play a critical role in assisting the Queensland Government to meet its renewable energy targets of 70% renewables by 2032, 80% by 2035 and net zero emissions by 2050, supporting the shift in the Australian economy to a decarbonised energy system.

The purpose

The Head of Communications and Stakeholder Engagement (C&SE) is a key position and will drive the leadership and strategic direction setting of stakeholder engagement activities for Queensland Hydro and its projects.

Ideally the role will be based in our Brisbane office, the key accountabilities for the Head of C&SE role will be to:

  • Work as a member of the Senior Leadership Team, collaborating with other senior team members to deliver on the strategic objectives of Queensland Government and the organisation.
  • Provide strategic advice to the Chief Executive and Executive team on matters relating to communications, media and stakeholder engagement.
  • Develop and lead the stakeholder engagement and communications strategy
  • Lead and develop a team of internal and consultant stakeholder engagement, communications and marketing specialists and support a culture of collaboration and high performance.

Key challenges for this role include:

  • Balance competing priorities and inputs from multiple stakeholders to achieve desired program and communication outcomes.
  • Maintain awareness of program progress and broader context and understanding of the implications.
  • Navigate the sensitivities of a matrix organisation and high profile, complex and politically sensitive environment and be flexible to respond to changing priorities.

About You

To be successful in this role you have proven industry experience coupled with the followed points: 

  • Degree level qualifications in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism or Marketing, or a related discipline or equivalent experience in a communications and stakeholder management role.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills to drive high performance, engagement and team growth.
  • IAP2 engagement certification.
  • Prior experience working with a diverse range of stakeholders on large multi-disciplinary infrastructure projects.
  • Advanced skills in translating infrastructure terminology to plain English.
  • Significant experience developing internal and external focused stakeholder engagement strategies in a complex environment.
  • Experience engaging and managing consultants.
