Queensland Hydro is a publicly owned entity established by the Queensland Government to design, deliver, operate and maintain long duration pumped hydro energy storage assets that will be the cornerstone for the transformation of the state’s energy system.

The Purpose

The Senior GIS Analyst at Queensland Hydro is responsible for managing and delivering advanced geospatial data and analysis, supporting projects and operations with a focus on spatial analysis, mapping, and data visualization. Additionally, the Senior GIS Analyst contributes to integrating geospatial information into asset management and supports the GIS Lead in promoting effective use of geospatial data to achieve the organization’s strategic goals.

The Role

Reporting to the GIS Lead, this role ensures data accuracy, consistency, and accessibility, while providing technical expertise to project teams. The Senior GIS Analyst is responsible for providing technical leadership in developing and maintaining geospatial systems to ensure seamless project data management. Key duties include collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to address geospatial needs, ensuring adherence to GIS standards, and managing the accuracy, consistency, and accessibility of digital data.

The role also involves conducting reviews of contractor GIS inputs, facilitating collaboration among stakeholders, and optimizing design coordination. Additionally, the Senior GIS Analyst provides technical support and training, integrates GIS with other digital systems, offers mentorship to the GIS team, and presents data analytics to senior management to support project objectives

About you

The ideal candidate for the Senior GIS Analyst role should have a minimum of a bachelor's degree in Spatial Sciences or related field, or significant relevant experience, along with at least 10 years of industry experience with geospatial technologies, particularly in large infrastructure projects. A strong background in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and proficiency in Esri’s ArcGIS platform is essential, as well as a valid Australian driver's license.

Key skills include excellent communication, presentation, and problem-solving abilities, along with experience in managing multiple projects under tight deadlines. The candidate should possess advanced IT skills, including network management and cybersecurity best practices, and familiarity with programming languages like Python or FME for workflow automation.

Strong leadership, flexibility, and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders are also crucial, along with a focus on fostering a positive team environment and maintaining high standards of GIS performance and deliverables.
