Purpose

The purpose of the Senior Project Manager - Underground is to provide leadership, project management and oversight of the underground scope of a large scale, long duration pumped storage hydropower project to ensure successful project development and delivery.

The Senior Project Manager – Underground will require significant infrastructure project management delivery experience on multidisciplinary projects, stakeholder engagement experience at a senior management level and proven ability to drive project delivery through a collaborative and relational approach with internal and external resources, consultants and delivery partners.

The role

The role will contribute to all aspects of project delivery including construction delivery methods, procurement activities including production and review of tender documentation as well as overseeing construction delivery to ensure the project meets schedule, quality and cost expectations. Your key accountabilities are to:

  • Provide senior management, technical and professional leadership for the delivery of the underground works in line with the organisation’s strategic objectives.
  • Ensure the works are delivered safely and de-risked through innovation and expertise in planning, design and delivery methodologies.
  • Live the Queensland Hydro organisational values to achieve outstanding outcomes for the organisation and key stakeholders.
  • Build collaborative relationships with internal and external resources, delivery partners as well as key stakeholders.
  • Track and control construction schedules and associated costs for achieving project completion within the budget and time allotted, and value for money outcomes when viewed on the basis of effective risk management, certainty of delivery and whole-of-life cost.
  • Proactively identify and communicate emerging issues and ensure that resolution processes are instigated before issues develop.
  • Contribute to the on-going development and review of the project risk register, ensuring that risk mitigation strategies are identified, and corresponding actions are implemented, with higher risk items receiving appropriate oversight, in accordance with the organisations risk framework.
  • Follow business processes and policy, including the Project governance framework, to ensure that required outcomes are achieved in accordance with organisational expectations.
  • Manage complex and sensitive consultations, negotiations and partnership arrangements with a wide range of stakeholders and delivery partners

About You

To be successful in this position you will hold the following attributes;

  • Minimum of 15 years underground hard rock mining/tunnelling/heavy civil experience.
  • Degree level qualification in engineering, management and/or project management combined with significant experience in all aspects of program and project management of multidisciplinary infrastructure projects.
  • Demonstrated industry experience in the procurement and delivery of large scale, complex, high risk infrastructure projects.
  • Proven experience in producing management and engineering design solutions from concept to fruition to issues of constructability, quality, productivity and safety.
  • Proven experience working with contracting partners to deliver projects on-time, on budget and incident free as well as proactively communicating potential and actual changes to project requirements.
  • Experience in the delivery of multidisciplinary infrastructure project scope using collaborative, flexible type contracts with exposure to incentivised target cost type compensation models.
  • Sound understanding of modern underground mining/civil practices with demonstrated experience working with Tier 1 contractors from an Owner’s perspective.
  • Proven ability to adapt quickly and effectively to changing circumstances and demands in a measured and constructive way.
  • Extensive experience in the development and execution of underground projects with expertise in drill and blast methods in a Greenfields project environment

It is desirable you will:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Project Management or Certification with Australian Institute of Project Management or Project Management Institute.
  • Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland or eligible to obtain within six (6) months.
  • Experience in delivery major infrastructure projects within Government owned entities.
  • Hydro or pumped storage project experience.
  • Reside within the Sunshine Coast or be willing to relocate.
