Queensland Hydro is a publicly owned entity established by the Queensland Government to design, deliver operate and maintain long duration pumped hydro energy storage assets that will be the cornerstone for the transformation of the state’s energy system.

The Purpose

Reporting to the Senior Contracts Manager and preferably based at Queensland Hydro Project, the Contracts Manager will play a vital role in achieving project objectives by building strong relationships with contractors and suppliers. This role involves negotiating and managing contracts from inception through to close-out, while providing strategic commercial leadership, operational oversight, and guidance for assigned work packages. The Contracts Manager will ensure all contracts align with legislative requirements, Queensland Government policies, and industry best practices. Multiple positions are available, covering contracts for the Upper Dam, Lower Dam, and OEM/PHES Design, requiring leadership in delivering commercial and contractual management for these key project areas.

The Role

To excel in this role, the Contracts Manager will be responsible for implementing and executing the Contract Management Plan for the relevant package, along with associated policies and procedures. This includes leading, mentoring, and empowering the contracts team through support, guidance, performance management, staff development, and issue resolution, in consultation with the Senior Commercial Manager.

The role involves managing payment activities, insurances, contract securities, and levies in line with contractual requirements and Queensland Hydro’s Commercial Principles. Additionally, the Contracts Manager will monitor and report on contractor performance, oversee the preparation of commercial contract reports, and attend project delivery meetings as needed.

They will ensure all commercial aspects of contracts and contractor relationships adhere to Queensland Hydro’s Commercial Contracting Principles, risk allocations, and best practices. Maintaining awareness of project-level commercial activities and their broader implications is essential to this role.

About you

You bring over 10 years of experience in construction, commercial, and contract management, ideally within large project delivery environments. Your qualifications in Quantity Surveying, Engineering, Commercial, Law, Construction, or a related discipline demonstrate your expertise, while your experience working with government stakeholders is highly valued.

You have a proven ability to manage competing priorities, delivering quality outcomes in complex settings within tight timeframes and budgets. Your strong conceptual, analytical, and problem-solving skills allow you to make sound, informed decisions.

As a leader, you inspire and guide teams, fostering collaboration and driving high performance to achieve organizational goals. Affiliation with relevant industry bodies such as RICS, AIQS, ICE, CMP, or IACCM further enhances your professional standing.
