What You’ll Do
We are seeking a Senior Financial Accountant who will be responsible for delivering accurate and timely financial management reporting for Queensland Hydro. As the Senior Financial Accountant, you will oversee the preparation of financial statements and reports for government stakeholders. Reporting to the Lead Finance Business Partner you will collaborate with the Financial Controller on strategic projects and continuous improvement initiatives. Your key responsibilities will be:
- Lead the preparation of yearly Statutory Accounts and Financial Statements including all working papers for audit purposes, liaising with external auditors and drafting accounting position papers.
- Oversee month end accounting process including managing the general ledger, journals, fixed assets, overseeing accurate and timely monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
- Lead the preparation of monthly management reporting including Profit and Loss, Balance Sheet and Cashflow Statement.
- Lead the lodgement of actuals in the Whole of Government financial reporting Tridata system, quarterly and annually.
- Preparation and lodgement of Queensland Hydro tax compliance including Statutory returns, Business Activity Statements, Payroll Tax returns and Fringe Benefits Tax returns.
- Work closely with the Accounts Payable and Payroll teams, including implementing accounting treatment changes, coding queries, capitalisation treatment and fraud prevention checks.
- Facilitate the collation and responses to information requests from senior management, government entities and third parties including Questions on Notice, Briefing Notes, Ministerial queries and other ad hoc requirements.
Who You Are
To be successful in this position, you will have a degree qualification in Finance, Accounting or another relevant discipline and a CPA or CA qualification. Your proven exposure to a major infrastructure project or a greenfield startup environment coupled with an awareness of Qld government financial management governance and reporting requirements will ensure your success. Additionally, you will have:
- A strong grasp in financial accounting and taxation, including knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards and Australian tax legislation, guidance and rules.
- The ability to align organisational strategic objectives with stakeholder needs and manage expectations.
- Excellent time management; as well as the ability to produce reliable, highly accurate reporting within specified timeframes.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Advanced MS Excel skills.
