As a Distribution Line Mechanic based in our Palmerston Depot, you'll be part of a dynamic and forward-thinking distribution team who safely build and maintain reliable electricity for our customers throughout the network.   • A full-time and permanent position working 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday with the hourly rate ranging from $34-$40 per hour plus consistent overtime and regular standby rosters.

Main duties

  • Providing line maintenance, construction and fault repair
  • Assisting the Depot Supervisor to achieve agreed performance goals by providing line maintenance, line construction and line fault repair services.
  • Installation, replacement, and maintenance of overhead power line equipment, poles and pole-mounted equipment (i.e. transformers, fuses, switches, circuit breakers, conductors, cross-arms, insulators, terminations, connections, etc.). 
  • Installation, replacement, and maintenance of underground/ground-mounted power line equipment (i.e. cables, transformers, switches, circuit breakers, fuses, enclosures, pillar boxes, terminations, connections, etc.). 
  • Adherence and compliance at all times with NAC Scope of Practice 

Successful candidates need

  • Minimum of Current EWRB limited registration is essential
  • A minimum 2 years’ experience as a Line Mechanic within the electricity industry in New Zealand or a minimum 4 years’ experience as a Line Mechanic overseas, working with distribution plant and equipment. 
  • Current working knowledge of the industry’s safety regulations
  • Ability to perform call-out duties, possibly alone and after hours, in inclement weather
  • Physically fit and capable of working outdoors
  • A cooperative team player
