Design Engineer - Substations

Tauranga (however open to other locations depending on experience)

We are offering an Entry Level / Design Engineer role that offers challenging work whilst maintaining a work life balance. If you want to be part of an experienced Engineering team or you think you can bring something to the table, we want to hear from you!

A Design Engineer - Substations provides and manages conceptual and detailed designs for Powerco. They also offer technical support across the business guiding and influencing standard designs. You will also develop a good understanding of the operation, maintenance of electrical protection and control systems. If you have an analytical mind, and enjoy problem solving. This role in our substation Design Team may be for you.  

Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop conceptual and detailed designs for substation projects;
  • Review external conceptual and detailed designs for substation projects;
  • Investigation and analysis substation related incidents;
  • Help develop Powerco’s substation and network policies and standards;
  • Assist with preparing substation development and renewal plans for Powerco; and
  • Provide technical support to other Powerco teams and Service Providers.

It is preferable that candidates have:

  • A tertiary qualification in Engineering majoring in Power Systems;
  • Experience in substation primary and secondary system designs;
  • Thorough understanding of substation equipment arrangements and installation methods;  
  • Experience in electricity protection systems design;
  • Experience in electricity protection primary and secondary testing; and
  • Excellent problem solving skills.
