Protection Engineer

North Island (Remote working)

Are you looking for a change in working environment? Looking for a new challenge? Or feel ready to take the next step in advancing your protection career? We are offering a role for a Protection Engineer that can either work from one of our established offices, work at home, or both.

We offer the chance to have challenging work as well as maintaining a healthy work life balance. If you want to test your technical knowledge and work with both experienced and developing engineers in the distribution industry, whilst bringing something to the table we want to hear from you!

 The Protection Engineer provides specialist technical plans, standards and advice on the development, maintenance and operation of Powerco’s electrical protection and control systems. If you have an analytical mind and enjoy problem solving this role in our Protection Team may be for you. 

 Key responsibilities include:

  • Investigation and analysis of protection related faults and protection operation;
  • Developing Powerco’s electricity network protection policies and standards;
  • Preparing development and renewal plans for Powerco’s protection and control systems;
  • Designing protection schemes to enhance and develop the network; and;
  • Providing technical supports to other Powerco teams in managing protection and control systems projects.

 It is preferable that candidates have:

  • A tertiary qualification in Engineering majoring in Power Systems
  • Proficient experience with load flows, short circuits and relay coordination calculations;
  • Experience in electricity protection systems design and analysis;
  • Experience in electricity protection primary and secondary testing; and
  • Excellent problem solving skills.
