Senior Information Security Analyst

New Plymouth

At Powerco, we keep the lights on and gas flowing for over 1.1 million customers across some of the most beautiful parts of Aotearoa’s North Island. We take pride in doing this safely, reliably, and efficiently. When supply is interrupted, we work hard to respond quickly so our customers can get on with their lives.

About the Team

Our Information Security team is passionate about ensuring robust, reliable security solutions and controls are in place and operating effectively, enabling Powerco to operate with confidence, knowing its systems and data are well protected and monitored.

We’re a tight-knit team that’s constantly adapting to an evolving threat landscape and understanding how this applies to our organisation. We support each other to grow and develop our skills and experience. While we dive deep into technical details, we also translate complex cybersecurity concepts into accessible insights for the wider business.

We challenge ourselves to achieve operational and security excellence—whether through people, processes, or technology solutions—for the benefit of the business and our customers.

About the Role

As a Senior Information Security Analyst, you will be the eyes and ears of our cybersecurity operations. You’ll play a crucial role in protecting Powerco’s IT and OT infrastructure by:

  • Curiously investigating and responding to Information Security events.
  • Implementing, operating, monitoring, and assuring security systems and technical controls, or supporting others with expert guidance.
  • Taking a technical leadership role in Security Incident investigation and response.
  • Acting as a senior escalation point in a learning-focused, knowledge-sharing environment.
  • Working closely with industry partners, technology vendors, and internal teams to ensure Powerco remains a cyber-resilient organisation.

This is a hands-on role with the opportunity to shape and enhance the security of a critical service provider in New Zealand. You’ll be encouraged to continuously learn and mentor others, growing both your expertise and the team’s collective capability.

 About You

You’re a curious and analytical professional with a passion for Information Security and a drive to protect systems and data. You thrive in technical deep dives while also being able to communicate cybersecurity concepts to non-technical audiences.

Key skills and attributes:

  • Strong understanding of IT security principles, networking, and risk management.
  • Experience in cybersecurity threat detection, investigation, and technical security solution management.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and provide technical leadership during security incidents.
  • 5+ years of experience preferred in Information Security, with incident response experience in a large environment.
  • A collaborative, innovative mindset, always looking for ways to improve.
  • A passion for mentoring and sharing knowledge, supporting others to grow in their roles.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

Why Join Us?

  • Work in a high-performing cybersecurity team that values collaboration and professional growth.
  • Be part of an organisation where learning and innovation are encouraged.
  • Make a real impact by helping to secure a critical infrastructure provider in New Zealand.
