Protection Engineer

The Protection Engineer provides specialist technical plans, standards and advice on the development, maintenance and operation of Powerco’s electrical protection and control systems. If you have an analytical mind and enjoy problem solving this role in our Protection and Control Team may be for you.
Key responsibilities include:
- Investigation and analysis of protection related faults and protection operation;
- Developing Powerco’s electricity network protection policies and standards;
- Preparing development and renewal plans for Powerco’s protection and control systems;
- Designing protection schemes to enhance and develop the network; and;
- Providing technical supports to other Powerco teams in managing protection and control systems projects.
It is preferable that candidates have:
- A tertiary qualification in Engineering majoring in Power Systems
- Proficient experience with load flows, short circuits and relay coordination calculations;
- Experience in electricity protection systems design and analysis;
- Experience in electricity protection primary and secondary testing; and
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
