Mō te tūnga | About the role:  

The Labour Leader’s Office (LLO) is seeking a dedicated professional to support the Parliamentary Labour Party Leader and MPs in their parliamentary duties. The Director of Strategy will spearhead an integrated policy and communications strategy.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Lead the writing of Labour Party policy documents in consultation with key stakeholders.
  • Establishing a timeline for announcements and aiding in narrative shaping and delivery.
  • Identifying policy opportunities and risks, providing strategic advice to the Leader and MPs.
  • Creating a comprehensive communications strategy, focusing on voter engagement and core message development.
  • Ensuring consistent messaging that resonates with the public.
  • Collaborating with the press team to effectively convey Labour's message through various media platforms.
  • Demonstrating professionalism and commitment to the mission of the Parliamentary Labour Party.

  • Established experience in advising political leaders on policy and strategic messaging.
  • Deep understanding of New Zealand's political landscape and its policy challenges.
  • Ability to simplify complex ideas into clear, actionable policy recommendations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills suitable for diverse audiences.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and time-management skills.
  • Proven relationship management abilities, with a focus on confidentiality and adaptability under pressure.

 The starting salary range for this role is $165,000 per annum. Appointments will be based on skills and experience (please note, the full salary range extends beyond this to allow for tenure progression).
