  • 12 hour rotating shifts, weekend and night work required.

About the role

Working as a Planning Controller Service Delivery within our bulk business unit you will be involved with leading the coordination and execution of the customer/train plan in real-time and within the service delivery time horizon. You will be tasked with providing leadership and support in a collaborative and inclusive manner, while prioritizing the implementation of business enhancements, fostering cultural change, enhancing safety practices, and promoting productive workplace strategies!

The Planning Controller Service Delivery is expected to:

  • Coordinate the execution of the day-to-day operations to match the customer plans, while maintaining regulatory compliance aligned to the safety management system.
  • Ensure labour is safely and cost effectively adjusted based on the demands to perform the required function and tasks.
  • Resolve complex problems considering customer requirements as well as labour / asset availabilities and most importantly limit of hours for our train crew.
  • Ensure that critical information is captured accurately and shared with relevant external and internal stakeholders when required.
  • Have oversight of service delivery performance and ensure that the on-shift performance meets Pacific Nationals and customer requirements. 
  • Provide relevant feedback, coaching and mentoring to the employees in the team. 
  • Support the relevant senior manager(s)/Superintendent(s). This will include raising any performance concerns in relation to team members with the relevant senior manager/superintendent; and where required, initiating investigations into nonconformances. 
  • Perform other tasks and responsibilities that fall within the skills and competencies; and required for the role.
  • Work to identify long term issues within the daily issues, producing subject matter expert driven solution to propose to Superintendent/s and Managers.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have a strong safety background and have:

  • Experience in leading, coaching, and motivating a team in a busy environment
  • Proven strengths in problem solving and analytical ability
  • Experience in building and developing a multi-faceted team with a key focus on driving a strong safety culture
  • Ability to work autonomously as well as within a team!
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills with the ability to communicate at all levels
  • Background in operations control, rail, transport or logistics will be advantageous
