About the role

Utilise your previous leadership experience to lead the day-to-day operations for our train crew team based at our Kalgoorlie depot.

The Supervisor plays a key role in providing leadership, support and guidance to train crew, as well as leading and coordinating day to day operations. This is a varied role that offers an experienced leader the opportunity to develop the team and improve operations by implementing continuous improvement initiatives. The main focus area’s will be centred around safety, people management, change management, delivery and investigations. 

Note, this role will be Mon-Fri however will require flexibility to support as required outside standard hours.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Inspire and lead a safety-focused team by supporting, supervising, coordinating and managing operational resources
  • Ensure compliance with the relevant network access regulations and policy standards
  • Develop organisational capability by building and maintaining the knowledge, skills and attributes required of the team with a focus on coaching, mentoring, and safety leadership.
  • Coordinate the implementation and communication of organisational, divisional and local safety instructions, as well as assess team members via driver performance and safety observations.
  • Have a commitment to providing optimal customer service; building excellent relationships with all stakeholders and identifying and developing improved business solutions for our customers
  • Identifying safety improvement opportunities, deliver Depot HSE initiatives to eliminate risk
  • Lead, supervise and provide support Train Crew in execution of frontline rail operation activities
  • Managing and co-coordinating day-to-day Depot train operations to fulfil the train plan
  • Enforce compliance to the operating standards by the Train Crews including any contractors on site
  • Manage train crew development and maintenance of capability and competency,
  • Supporting the rostering development process to ensure efficiency and optimal design of master and working rosters whilst meeting EA and safety requirements.
  • Proactively leading a team of drivers that work at 24/7 roster
  • Develop strategies for the recruitment of new Drivers as part of the Linehaul management team..

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have a strong leadership and safety background.

An experienced operational leader who is passionate about driving positive change and is not afraid to challenge the status quo. Prior rail experience is not essential, however previous leadership in logistics or heavy industry preferable.

To succeed in this role, you will need to be a leader with strong communication skills, a safety focus, and the ability to build positive relationships with both internal and external stakeholder. Other qualities include:

  • Rail experience or relevant background in Transport & Logistics or a similar industry is advantageous.
  • Demonstrated operational experience in a dynamic and demanding role.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a proven record of leading teams and implementing cultural change/improvement initiatives.
  • Knowledge of HSE management systems and a history of effectively implementing HSE initiatives.
  • Proven passion for developing your teams and seeing people's goals being achieved.
  • Capability to manage adverse incidents in the field and conduct thorough follow up investigations
  • Excellent time management skills, coupled with availability and willingness to work flexible hours when required.
  • Demonstrated experienced working with and interpreting Enterprise Agreements
