About the role:

The role of the Hospitality Operations Coordinator is an exciting one combining the managing of daily operations of the student café to ensure that the cafe provides high-quality food and beverages to students, staff, and visitors. You will also provide support in the co-ordination of campus related events and functions, and supporting teaching staff in the delivery and assessment of industry relevant training focused on developing and building student capability.

The purpose of the role is to ensure that each NZMA student is provided with an environment for optimal total learning experience through providing a place where students can eat, relax, engage but also put their skills into practice. A safe, supportive, and encouraging environment where they can make mistakes to learn from, build the confidence to overcome their nerves, and get experience dealing with real customers. 

 

Some of your daily tasks in this role will include:

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the cafe, including opening and closing procedures, ordering supplies, and overseeing food preparation.
  • Oversee the day-to-day tasks of student staff.
  • Provide excellent customer service, responding to customer complaints and resolving issues in a timely and effective manner.
  • Monitor inventory levels and place orders for supplies as needed.
  • Ensure that the cafe is clean and well-maintained, including equipment and facilities.
  • Manage cash and credit card transactions, including making deposits and reconciling cash drawers.
  • Ensure that all staff adhere to health and safety regulations and guidelines, and all food handling and safety procedures are followed.


About you:

You are an experienced Hospitality professional with a strong background working in café settings. You will be passionate about contributing to developing the future generation of industry professionals. In addition, your background and experience will include:

  • Extensive experience in the Hospitality industry, ideally in café environments.
  • Experience in a related supervisory or managerial role for at least 12 months.
  • Café food and beverage preparation and service experience.
  • A strong understanding of the NZ Food Safety requirements and policies.
  • Excellent customer service skills, with the ability to handle customer complaints and resolve issues in a professional manner. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and point of sale software.
  • Demonstrated commitment to represent and be a strong advocate for students.
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritise complex workloads and reach goals or targets on time.
