Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage critical engineering projects, ensuring delivery under broad direction.
- Translate high-level goals into actionable plans, considering uncertainties and setting priorities.
- Apply advanced engineering principles to develop and implement improvements within the Defence framework.
- Collaborate and communicate effectively with stakeholders to influence and guide teams.
- Mentor and motivate junior engineers, aligning skills and resources to achieve results.
- Evaluate technical and design packages, ensuring compliance with legislative and regulatory frameworks.
- Ensure safety aspects are integrated into engineering activities.
- Manage workflows and resources, preparing detailed work plans with measurable outcomes.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering from a recognized institution.
- Over 5 years of experience in designing and supporting technology solutions in secure, large-scale environments.
- Proven experience in Technical Architect or Senior Operational Support roles in Gateway environments.
- Expertise with Next Generation Firewalls, Secure Email and Web Gateways, Web Application Firewalls, SDN, WAN Optimization.
- Strong understanding of security frameworks (ISM, NIST, ISO27001) and the security threat landscape.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
- Ability to rapidly develop proof of concept systems within a DevSecOps framework.
- Experience with highly available systems and networks, including in degraded or disconnected states.
- Proficiency in network segmentation, micro-segmentation, and VPN technologies.
- Experience with private cloud or multi-tenant network solutions.
Desirable Experience:
- Over 5 years configuring and supporting multi-vendor, geographically dispersed solutions.
- Expertise with secure infrastructure systems and varying security levels.
- Familiarity with Arista and Fortinet equipment for large-scale ICT Gateways.
- Knowledge of Secure Email Gateways and ISM security controls.
- Experience with network load-balancing (F5), virtualization, hyper-converged infrastructure, Active Directory, and PKI services.
- Proficiency in scripting languages (Python, Bash, Powershell).
- Understanding of governance frameworks related to infrastructure and security delivery.
- Knowledge of zero-trust architecture principles and Australian Defence Force environments.
ITAR Compliance:
- Must comply with US International Traffic in Arms Regulation (ITAR) for handling export-controlled ICT products.
