Nixil Pty Ltd is seeking an experienced Health Interoperability / HL7 FHIR Expert to support a strategic engagement with an end customer in the health sector. The successful candidate will provide expert advisory services focused on the incorporation of HL7 FHIR standards and Health Information Exchange (HIE) alignment into enterprise-level architectural design and implementation planning.

This role forms part of the Architecture and Implementation Advisory Services stream and is critical to supporting the development of a connected and interoperable digital health ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide specialist guidance on the application and integration of HL7 FHIR standards and health information exchange (HIE) practices in system architecture.
  • Lead the development and validation of interoperability frameworks, data models, technical specifications, and integration patterns.
  • Collaborate with internal and external solution architects, enterprise architects, and delivery teams to ensure interoperability is embedded in design.
  • Align system architecture with relevant national digital health strategies, standards, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Identify interoperability gaps within existing systems and recommend enhancements to improve data flow, conformance, and integration.
  • Support advisory services for solution planning, implementation strategies, and governance design.
  • Liaise with vendor partners, government agencies, and state/territory health bodies to ensure interoperability alignment.
  • Assist in the creation of FHIR profiles, implementation guides, and API specifications.
  • Contribute to solution assessments, technical evaluations, and conformance reviews during implementation phases.

Key Requirements:

  • Proven expertise in HL7 FHIR, HL7 v2/v3, and healthcare interoperability standards.
  • Strong understanding of health information exchange (HIE) architectures, protocols, and implementation models.
  • Demonstrated experience in architectural advisory roles on complex health sector programs.
  • Knowledge of Australian digital health initiatives and national health interoperability standards.
  • Experience working within government or large enterprise environments, ideally within health or aged care sectors.
  • Ability to articulate technical concepts clearly to diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to engage with diverse stakeholders and translate complex technical concepts into clear strategic recommendations.
  • Excellent analytical, documentation, and communication skills.
  • MUST BE an Australian Citizen.

Desirable:

  • Experience working with or alongside public sector health agencies or national infrastructure providers.
  • Familiarity with SMART on FHIR, OAuth2, and API security models.
  • Understanding of clinical terminologies such as SNOMED CT-AU, LOINC, and ICD-10-AM.

Qualifications:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Health Informatics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
  • Certifications in HL7, FHIR, or interoperability standards are highly regarded.
