NHW is the major regional health service and specialist referral facility for Northeast Victoria. It serves a population of approximately 102,000,

performs over 6,500 procedures a year and has over 19,000 inpatient episodes and 30,000 Emergency Department attendances a year and approximately 700 births per year. We have onsite radiology, pathology and blood bank service. NHW provides a wide range of acute specialist medical and surgical services, an emergency department, critical care unit (ICU, HDU, CCU), obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, specialised aged care, medical oncology services, community rehabilitation, inpatient, community, aged and psycho-geriatric mental health services. 

NHW has recently completed a major redevelopment, including the building of a new emergency department, ICU, and expansion of medical and paediatric units

The service contributes to undergraduate and post-graduate medical education and to nursing and allied health education. University of Melbourne’s popular rural clinical school is located onsite its education facilities include a simulation lab and skills centre. 

Our Senior Medical Staff comprises of FACEMS, FACRRMS, FRACGP all of whom have completed ACEM’s EMC, EMD or EMAD programs.

The Role

The Emergency Registrar will be responsible for the assessment and management of patients with the support of the senior medical staff. They will also be involved with the supervision and education of interns, HMOs and medical students.

The registrar will be regularly exposed to the management of trauma and critically unwell patients in our resuscitation area.

There is the opportunity to undertake the ACEM Emergency Medicine Certificate or Diploma as well as further training in ultrasound.
