Yarrabee Coal Company, the proud recipients of the 2021 Prospect Awards for Australian Coal Mine of the Year and Excellence in Mine Safety and OH&S, is based near Blackwater Queensland, located 2 hours’ drive west of Rockhampton. 

We currently have an exciting opportunity for an Electrical Apprentice join the team, commencing in Febuary 2025. Employees of Yarrabee Coal pride themselves on their constant commitment to safety, teamwork, a supportive work culture and continuous improvement through innovation.

As an Apprentice, you will work towards becoming a qualified tradesperson, possessing a high degree of proficiency and working knowledge of Yarrabee’s equipment and plant. You will learn to diagnose faults, service and repair and mechanical equipment at Yarrabee.

WHY BE AN APPRENTICE AT YARRABEE?

As a Yarrabee apprentice you will be appointed a dedicated Field Officer from MRAEL who will guide you through your trade, making sure every aspect of your training experience is rewarding and professional. The Field Officer provides you with consistent mentoring, support and performance management throughout your apprenticeship while ensuring you progress through your training and will coordinate block bookings when necessary. The Field Officer will have regular meetings to discuss your progression and any challenges you may have.

OPPORTUNITY

We are now recruiting for the following Apprenticeship opportunities to work onsite at Yarrabee Coal Mine.

  • 1 x Apprentice Electrician – Certificate III in Electrotechnology

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

The successful candidates will be required to undergo MRAEL’s initial screening process and Yarrabee’s onboarding which includes:

  • A medical examination (Coal Board Medical),
  • Chest X-Ray
  • Drug and alcohol test
  • Police report
  • Pre-functional assessment

Applicants must be eligible to work within Australia.

Skills

  • Sound communication skills
  • Basic computer skills
  • Completed or completing year 12 as a minimum
  • Ability to exercise initiative and work both independently and co-operatively as required
  • Skilled in hazard identification and responsive to safety issues

 Knowledge

  • Expectation to learn individual responsibilities within the Coal Mining Safety & Health Act and associated regulations

 Experience

  • Completed work experience in a relative field of work will be looked upon favourably.
  • Prevocational courses will be acknowledged (Certificate II in Electrotechnology)

 Qualifications

  • Current Manual Driver’s licence will be looked upon favourably.
