The Opportunity
Are you a skilled Electrical and Instrumentation Designer looking to take the next step in your career? Join our team at Mipac as a Lead Electrical and Instrumentation Designer, where you will play a pivotal role in preparing high-quality electrical, control, and instrumentation deliverables for our clients. In this newly created position, you will also support CAD Operators and Drafters, ensuring excellence in AutoCAD and design tool administration.
Key Responsibilities
- Design Detail: Interpreting Engineer’s conceptual designs and transforming them into detailed technical deliverables.
- Drawing Preparation: Create and update electrical and control system deliverables, including Single Line Diagrams, Schematics, P&ID’s, Cable Block Diagrams, Termination Diagrams, Loop Diagrams, Hookup Diagrams, Equipment BOM’s and Panel Arrangements.
- Site Inspections: Conduct site inspections to gather data and verify existing drawings.
- Support & Maintenance: Maintain AutoCAD infrastructure and design tool procedures including assessing most appropriate software and tools and driving continual improvement.
- Training & Audits: Train new starters in MIPAC’s AutoCAD and design tool procedures and conduct regular audits.
- Team Collaboration: Work with drafters, designers, and Engineers to ensure timely project completion that is within budget.
- Standards Compliance: Ensure consistency and compliance with design standards across Mipac and relevant Australian Standards.
- AutoCAD Administration: Maintain MIPAC’s CAD standards and library. Ensures that Client CAD standards are implemented.
Qualifications and Skills Required
- Diploma or Advanced Diploma in Electrical Engineering (or recognised equivalent) with relevant industry experience, or a relevant electrical trade background.
- Proven experience as an Electrical/Instrumentation/Control Detail Draftsperson.
- Proficiency in CAD software, such as AutoCAD (Advanced to Expert level) and/or MicroStation.
- Proficiency in design tools like AVEVA Instrumentation and Eplan.
- Experience in 3D modelling software.
- Strong oral communication skills for effective client and team interaction.
- High level of computer literacy and excellent mathematical skills.
- Strong attention to detail, quality focus, and ideally an understanding of ISO 9001 principles.
- Previous experience overseeing and reviewing design work of direct reports.
- Focused and ability to prioritise workload to ensure efficient project delivery.
