We currently have an exciting new opportunity for a dynamic and experienced Compliance, Safety and Quality Manager to join our Safety team.

​The Compliance, Safety and Quality Manager is responsible for ensuring that construction projects and facilities maintenance works meet the required standards for safety, quality and compliance. This role will work across all precincts (airside, landside and terminals) and engage with all capital works project teams and facilities maintenance providers to ensure that designs are appropriate, works are completed safely and to the required quality standards and transitioned seamlessly into operations. The role will use their extensive experience to support project teams and facilities maintenance providers to develop creative solutions by either following or modifying existing procedures. ​

Key responsibilities:

The role's duties and accountabilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Conduct regular safety audits and compliance checks to ensure the highest level of safety across all operations. 
  • Support the development of risk assessments for high-risk works, operational changes and events. 
  • Ensure hazards and incidents observed are reported through the Safety Incident Management System. 
  • Support the investigation process following incidents to provide insight into potential root causes and contributing factors. 
  • Ensure that corrective actions following incidents or non-compliance are implemented and tracked for effectiveness. 
  • Support the conduct of Safety and Design and Safety in Operation workshops. 
  • Build strong relationships with Internal and external Project Management teams, construction contractors facilities maintenance contractors and their subcontractors in order to support improved quality outcomes on projects and a reduction in the number and frequency of post completion defects including providing advice on the correct processes for completing works within the airport environment. 
  • Engage with contractors to identify risks both within their site and to the wider operation and support the contractor with appropriate risk mitigations. 
  • Work with project teams to conduct regular inspections, including at key hold points to support a reduction in the number of non-conformances and defects pre and post completion 
  • Conduct regular quality and compliance checks across all construction and facilities maintenance works to ensure that completed works meet Melbourne Airports quality expectations, Melbourne Airport Standards, the National Construction Code and Australian Standards. 
  • Support stakeholders in the works permitting process, in particular the Permission to Commence Works (PERCOW) process with both pre works reviews and post works sign off, focussing on safety, compliance and quality outcomes. 

The successful candidate will have:

  • ​​​Experience in a Compliance, Safety and Quality role within a client or contractor covering safety compliance, construction management and/or quality assurance/quality control. 
  • ​Tertiary qualification or equivalent experience gained in a similar environment. 
  • ​Detailed understanding of construction quality assurance/quality control 
  • ​Demonstrated familiarity with safety management systems. 
  • ​Experience in Safety in Design and Safety in Operations processes. 
  • ​Demonstrated understanding of investigation principles with the ability to assist with incident investigations. 
  • ​Demonstrated knowledge of airport operations in terms of safety and compliance. 
  • ​Demonstrated well-developed project management and time management skills. 
  • ​Detailed understanding of hazards, risk, controls and context for both safety and operational events. 
  • ​Maintains an up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislative requirements
