As we embark on a significant expansion, including the construction of a third runway, we’re seeking a talented Communications Advisor to join our team on a 12-month maternity cover contract.
As a key member of our Media and Communications team, you’ll play an essential role in sharing Melbourne Airport’s story and keeping our community informed. This dynamic position involves managing media relations, creating engaging digital content, and delivering critical business updates.
You’ll liaise with journalists, stakeholders, and internal teams to craft compelling narratives, manage media events, and ensure seamless communication. You’ll also contribute to our digital marketing strategy, including social media management and SEO optimisation.

Key responsibilities:
The role's duties and accountabilities include, but are not limited to:
- Respond to media enquiries as part of a 24-hour on-call roster, including some out-of-hours work.
- Draft timely, high-quality media responses and liaise with journalists on key issues.
- Create media releases, speeches, and briefing notes for senior leaders.
- Provide support for crisis management and business milestone communications.
- Collaborate with the digital team to create engaging social media posts, manage interactions, and improve website content and SEO.

- A tertiary qualification in Communications or Journalism.
- Proven experience writing clear, concise copy for media or customer-facing organisations.
- Strong media and digital landscape knowledge, including social media trends.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a knack for storytelling.
- Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure and with diverse stakeholders.
- Experience in issues management or journalism within complex environments.
- A strategic mindset and strong problem-solving skills.
