We currently have an exciting new opportunity for a dynamic and experienced Senior Safety Business Partner to join our Safety team.
The Senior Safety Business Partner - Construction is responsible for implementing and overseeing APAC’s Safety Management processes specifically within construction projects. This role involves collaborating with project teams, contractors, and stakeholders to embed a safety-first culture, manage high-risk construction activities, and ensure compliance with all safety regulations and standards. The role is essential to driving safety excellence and risk mitigation in construction environments.

Key responsibilities:
The role's duties and accountabilities include, but are not limited to:
- Lead and provide expert guidance on construction safety practices across all APAC construction projects.
- Serve as a trusted safety advisor to project managers, ensuring safety principles are embedded at every stage of construction.
- Ensure controls and mitigation strategies are implemented and regularly reviewed to minimise hazards in the construction environment.
- Apply Safety in Design principles to construction projects, collaborating with engineers and designers to proactively address safety risks from planning through execution.
- Ensure incidents are reported, investigated, and documented, applying recognised methods (e.g., root cause analysis techniques, ICAM, etc.), where necessary.
- Compile and analyse safety data, prepare reports on incident trends, and communicate findings and recommendations to leadership.
- Work closely with contractors, subcontractors, and internal project stakeholders to promote a consistent, proactive approach to safety.
- Provide guidance and support to Safety Business Partners, helping develop their expertise and leadership in safety practices.
- Support the Senior Manager, Safety, ensuring APAC meets all Victorian and Commonwealth OHS legislative requirements.
- Oversee compliance with relevant safety legislation and standards, ensuring audits of construction projects are scheduled and undertaken by an external auditor.
- Support the implementation of safety inspections across construction projects.
- Compile and analyse safety data specific to construction, identifying trends, preparing reports, and making recommendations for continuous safety improvement on construction projects.
The successful candidate will have:
- Tertiary qualification in Occupational Health and Safety (OHS), Construction Safety, or related field.
- Several years of experience in a senior OHS role, with at least 3 years focused on construction safety in high-risk construction environments.
- Accreditation in Root Cause Analysis (e.g., ICAM or TapRoot) - desired.
- Demonstrated expertise in Safety in Design and construction risk management principles, especially within large-scale or complex construction projects.
- Extensive experience working with diverse construction teams, including project managers, engineers, contractors, and site personnel.
- Strong ability to perform effectively in a dynamic environment, operating autonomously while engaging key stakeholders.
- Extensive experience in conducting/managing incident investigations, compiling safety data, and developing comprehensive safety reports.
