The Sustainability Advisor will play a crucial role in embedding Melbourne Airport's sustainability approach, supporting capital and operational projects to achieve strategic sustainability objectives. This position involves identifying and managing sustainability and environmental risks, conducting assessments and audits, and providing expert advice on best practice in sustainability.

The Advisor will collaborate with various teams to integrate sustainability into design and construction, track project progress, and ensure compliance with regulations and standards. Additionally, the role includes developing sustainability initiatives, delivering training, and continuously educating project teams on sustainability principles.

Key responsibilities:

The role's duties and accountabilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Identify and effectively manage sustainability and environmental risk management controls and ensure obligations are met. Conduct risk assessments, inspections, and audits and investigations associated with environment and sustainability as required. 
  • Support Capital Program Team across aviation and property development to incorporate sustainability in design and construction initiatives. 
  • Working Collaboratively across the business, support and drive the implementation of Sustainability guidelines and projects.
  • Provide advice on best practice in sustainability locally and internationally in the built environment, supporting Capital Program Team across aviation and property development to incorporate sustainability in design and construction initiatives. 
  • Track project progress on sustainability initatives and report on compliance to contract requirements. Provide verification and assurance to project sustainability management framework of major capital projects 
  • Develop and delivery of the APAC’s sustainability initiative program. Drive innovative solutions to minimise the environmental footprint of our products and operations.
  • Assist with sustainability reporting, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and standards and as set out in contractual requirements
  • Develop and implement internal sustainability assurance processes that aligns with Environmental Management System practices. Provide verification and assurance to project sustainability management framework of major capital projects
  • Continually educate and build project teams knowledge of sustainability.
  • Support the delivery of Environment, Heritage and Sustainability awareness training and induction operationally and across projects.
  • Undertake other duties commensurate with skills and experience as directed.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Tertiary qualification in Engineering, Sustainable Systems, Environmental Science or similar preferred.
  • Solid understanding of environmental sustainability issues related to infrastructure or asset management. 
  • Previous professional experience in sustainability or related areas 
  • Experience in translating stakeholder material topics into an actionable strategy 
  • Effective communication, project management and presentation abilities.
  • Ability to engage stakeholders and convey sustainability concepts.
  • Be adaptable to manage a constantly changing workplace as we deliver complex infrastructure projects.
  • Experience in delivering sustainability rating tools desired.
  • Construction experience including the management of discreet packages of work also beneficial
