About the role

Reporting to the General Manager of Steel, this role will see you produce timely bids aligned with McNab's policies and individual client requirements, ensuring we secure new projects effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform detailed quantity takeoff for structural steel elements (e.g., beams, columns, trusses) using CostX, ensuring all measurements are accurate and align with project specifications.
  • Prepare competitive bids and cost plans while identifying and managing project risks and opportunities.
  • Develop and foster strong relationships with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors to achieve optimal commercial outcomes.
  • Work closely with project teams to leverage subcontractor relationships for the best pricing and ensure a positive, collaborative work environment.
  • Implement rigorous quality control measures to ensure accuracy in all measurements and reporting.
  • Train and manage overseas based take-off and measurement resources to ensure estimating quality and program is maintained.

About you

  • Previous experience estimating in the steel industry
  • Solid technical understanding of steel performance and quality requirements including familiarity with AS4100 and AS5131
  • Have proven experience with Cost X and Estimate One.
  • Understand the methodology for the erection of Structural Steel.
  • Experience with measurement and estimating to ASMM and trade based format.
  • Proven commercial and financial acumen with the ability to think strategically.
  • Excellent problem-solving, influencing, verbal/written communication, and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to efficiently present information intuitively and consciously.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Proven experience with managing direct reports.
  • Established industry relationships (desirable)
  • Experience with overseas procurement and fabrication (desirable)
