About the role

This role responsible for the overall safe management, performance, and successful end-to-end delivery of steel fabrication construction projects on time and budget, whilst exceeding client expectations and delivering certainty with end product.

Key responsibilities:

  • You will be our technical steel expert and be able to provide sound advice, guidance and mentoring to the greater team on all aspects of structural steel.
  • End-to-end management of structural steel process from engagement, drawing development, fabrication (including purlin), testing, and shipping.
  • Ensure the processes and objectives of the McNab Quality Management System and the Quality Management Plan are implemented and monitored throughout the project. Including, Inspection Test Plans (ITPs), load calculations to ensure they meet the design intent and Australian safety standards.
  • Review structural designs to ensure completeness and engage with structural engineer on all technical matters.
  • Ensure understanding of Universal Beam (UB), Universal Column (UC), Built-up Plate steel construction, and Australian standards (e.g., AS 1554).
  • Oversee proper testing of major weld points during fabrication and ensure the appropriate welding type is used (Full-Strength Butt Weld (FSBW) or Fillet Weld).
  • Possess knowledge of third-party testing requirements (Ultrasonic Testing (UT), Magnetic Particle Test (MT), plate testing) and various steel grade members.
  • Understanding of blasting and paint requirements (i.e. Class 1 and 2 Painting)
  • Document all necessary certificates and warranties.
  •  Responsible for collaborating with the project team and providing input to all project planning and program outcomes.
  • Support design managers by providing feedback and ensuring design timelines and milestones are met.
  • Ensure designs are fit for purpose, fully coordinated, and meet all contractual obligations.

About you

  • Valid driver’s licence and current passport, this role will see you travel both locally and internationally, various times each year.
  • Ideally you will come from a background in structural steel and have grown into a management role and have a solid understanding of all relevant codes and regulations.
  • Bachelor of Engineering with at least 5+ years’ experience in similar role within the construction industry
  • Experience in establishing construction systems, processes, and procedures
  • Experience in managing construction projects complying with environmental regulatory compliance
  • Strong knowledge of statutory regulations and Australian Standards
  • Proficient in management reporting, presentation, and problem-solving with attention to detail
  • A pro-active approach to resolving issues and excellent attention to detail
  • Intermediate MS Office Skills
  • Proficient Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and Tekla skills
  • Flexible with hours of work and willing to travel
  • Construction White Card
