The Senior Project Engineer is responsible for assisting in the management of overall project activities and resources to produce results in alignment with project / study requirements in a timely, quality and cost effective manner.

The tasks you'll perform

  • Support the Project Management and his team to ensure the quality of deliverable is aligned with the needs of the project / study, the company objectives, the requirements of the client and meets regulatory requirements.
  • Follow the various (project specific and company) procedures, work practices, plans and protocols required to work efficiently and maintain a consistent approach and high standard of work.
  • Assist with project control activities including scheduling, forecasting and other deliverables to a consistently high standard.
  • Report immediately any change to the Project Manager and assist to ensure project / studies are complete to time, quality and budget targets within the Company and project risk frame work.
  • Assist in the preparation of contract scope of works and commercial tender reviews.
  • Assist with contract administration activities as assigned by the Project Manager.
  • Assist with procurement, inspection and expediting activities.
  • Carry out assigned project activities, including site engineer duties, in a manner that prioritises safety, environment, community and industrial relations.
  • Assist in regular maintaining the project / study schedule and budget including change management.
  • Undertake investigations and prepare reports as directed by the Project Manager.
  • Participate in the Project quality management process including carrying out inspections at the vendor’s premises and review the vendor quality management.
  • Attend and record proceedings at progress and other project meetings.
  • Advise the Project Manager, or in his absence the Manager of Projects, immediately on matters that negatively affect project goals.
  • Advise the Project Manager, or in his absence the Manager of Projects, immediately of any safety, environmental, community or industrial relations incidents. Generation and compilation of engineering and equipment specifications.
  • Contribute to the estimating and scheduling components of scoping, prefeasibility and feasibility studies.
  • Manage/Supervise and mentor junior members of the project team.
  • Develop effective relationships with clients.

 

The expertise you'll bring

  • Tertiary level education in Engineering, preferably with a Mechanical emphasis.
  • At least 10 years’ proven industry experience, 5 years of which in project engineering, preferably in a minerals processing or project delivery environment.
  • South African Citizen or Permanent Resident.
  • Cape Town based.
  • Solid technical aptitude, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision whilst consistently producing a high quality of deliverables, within budget and schedule constraints.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with the Microsoft suite of software packages, including Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrate ability to and/or proficiency in the use of specific proprietary software packages.
  • relevant to the Engineering discipline; specifically for scheduling and cost control.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of contract standards and a sound background in contract
  • administration duties.
  • Technical background with a broad multi-disciplinary base, preferably in minerals processing
  • plants / infrastructure construction.
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work efficiently in a team and knowledge sharing environment.
  • Demonstrated good interpersonal skills and a practical approach to problem-solving.
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility and commitment.
  • Demonstrate a strict practice of confidentiality, personal responsibility and discretion.
  • High degree of professional ethics.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to continued professional development and improvement.
