The tasks you'll perform

  • Perform accurate engineering design and calculations for foundation, concrete and steel structures.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, documents, specifications and scopes.
  • Identify variations and prepare relevant documentations
  • Conduct timely reviews of project structural and civil drawings to achieve full compliance with design intent.
  • Liaise with and provide professional support to the drafting team in the preparation of drawing deliverables.
  • Develop technical documentation including scopes of work and specifications using relevant industry standards and guidelines.
  • Load engineering, calculate loads imposed by equipment, piping and cabling, including live and impact loads. Comprehend various load combinations.
  • Provide accurate material take-offs as and when required.
  • Evaluate tenders and provide technical recommendations for the purchase of structural and civil equipment from vendors where necessary.
  • Review vendor certified documentation and disseminate the information to the appropriate personnel for interface checking.
  • Assist with the delivery of project documentation in relation to scope, quantities, cost and schedule (man-hour budgets, design schedules and estimates).
  • Register and file all relevant project documentation in accordance with the company approved procedures.
  • Work in conjunction with a range of internal and external stakeholders to meet project design criteria and deliverables.
  • Contribute to engineers in training professional development by providing consistent mentoring and identify avenues of development.
  • Proactively support other team members as required to ensure project deliverables are met.
  • Manage external consultants and perform peer reviews on their deliverables.
  • Travel on ad-hoc basis to suit the needs of the business and its operations.

The expertise you'll bring

  • University degree in Structural and Civil Engineering or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 5+ years of experience in mineral processing and/or related industries.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer with ECSA.
  • South African Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Cape Town based
  • Previous experience in management and leading large teams of people.
  • Exceptional ability to multitask and work at pace in a complex and challenging EPCM sector.
  • Solid technical aptitude, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Build and sustain positive relationships with all stakeholders, including clients, vendors and co-workers.
  • Ability to work with people at all levels within an organisation and external providers.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to multitask and prioritise to a high standard of accuracy and professionalism.
  • Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision whilst consistently producing a high quality of deliverables.
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility and commitment.
  • Demonstrate a strict practice of confidentiality, personal responsibility and discretion.
  • High attention to detail and exceptional knowledge of managing contracts in the resources sector.
  • Exemplify and encourage the core values and ethos of the business.
  • Provide mentoring and identify avenues of professional development and succession planning for personnel within your group.
  • Intuitive leader with the ability to initiate, lead and manage change in a complex environment.
