 The Opportunity: We're currently looking for a highly capable and experienced Engineering Manager to lead a team interfacing between Sales, Product Managers, and Design Engineering during the tender and proposal lifecycle.

This role is central to how Komatsu Australia delivers value to customers through engineered customisation, and requires a strategic mindset, technical credibility, and commercial acumen. You'll be working directly with Mining, Construction and Utility Sales teams, Product Managers, and Engineering across Australia, New Zealand and New Caledonia to shape, standardise, and influence the technical direction of major deals, ensuring Komatsu delivers machines that are Engineered to customer defined operational needs and fully compliant to AS, ISO and industry standards.

This is a senior leadership role with national visibility, ownership of a small team of four technical sales engineers, and direct influence on engineering throughput and customer outcomes.

 Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as the engineering lead during major tenders-consulting on scope, feasibility, and compliance
  • Review and convert complex tender and spec documentation into clear engineering scopes
  • Partner with Sales and Product Managers to standardise LOPs and custom machine specs
  • Support Engineering planning through weekly updates on tenders, in-flight opportunities, and resourcing impacts
  • Engage suppliers to ensure all third-party modifications meet Australian standards and WHS legislation
  • Drive continuous improvement in the Engineering design request engagement process
  • Champion safety, quality, and ISO 9001 compliance in all custom engineering activities

In your first 12 months, you’ll be expected to:

  • Build clarity and cadence across the tender intake and engineering design request process to eliminate firefighting
  • Proactive workflow standardisation
  • Drive information discipline removing ambiguity from technical requirements
  • Reduce handover friction and improve turnaround time on technical scope creation
  • Clear go/no go stages
  • Acceptance criteria
  • Develop and lead a high-performing team of four technical engineers
  • Set clear expectations, provide structured coaching, and embed a culture of accountability and ownership.

What we are looking for:

  • Degree-qualified engineer with 8-15 years' experience in mobile plant, mining, or heavy industry –
  • Deep understanding of custom engineering, LOPs, and the challenges of machine modification –
  • Strong communicator-able to translate between sales intent, customer requirements, and engineering execution
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, high-visibility role interfacing with executives, customers, and suppliers - Skilled in navigating ambiguity and bringing structure to complex commercial/technical challenges
  • Proven ability to lead and develop small technical teams
  • Confident in setting structure, expectations, and coaching engineers in cross-functional environments
  • Ability to travel to Komatsu sites, suppliers, and customers Nationally if required
  • Ability to attend workshop, access/enter and inspect machines in build and at customer sites.

Qualifications:

  • Required - Bachelor’s degree qualification in Engineering
  • Preferred but not essential – Chartered, NER or RPEQ accreditation
