Assistant Accountant

(Remote, Maternity Leave Contract)

We’re looking for a skilled and proactive Assistant Accountant to join our head office team, reporting to the Financial Controller and providing crucial support to our Finance team. This is a 14-month maternity leave contract working remotely with the possible occasional requirement to attend in person meetings. The remuneration package will be commensurate with experience.

About the Role

In this role, you’ll play a vital part in supporting our financial operations. Key responsibilities include:

  • Completing month-end tasks, including reports, journals, reconciliations, and other deliverables.
  • Preparing and providing month-end financial reports.
  • Adhering to accounting standards and internal policies and procedures.
  • Reviewing and assisting with fortnightly payroll processing.
  • Building and managing relationships with external stakeholders such as auditors, financial institutions, and other partners.
  • Providing guidance and support to finance team members as well as the broader business.
  • Completing additional tasks and analysis as required.

About You

We’re looking for someone with a strong accounting foundation and a drive to contribute to a high-performing team. Our ideal candidate will have:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance is required.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  • Familiarity with accounting systems; experience with NetSuite is a plus.
  • Previous experience as an Assistant Accountant, with the ability to meet strict reporting deadlines.
  • A sound working knowledge of Accounting Standards related to account preparation and financial disclosures.
  • The ability to learn and adapt to new systems quickly.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
  • The ability to work autonomously and prioritise tasks effectively.
  • Problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Professionalism, teamwork, and collaboration.
  • A willingness to learn and share knowledge with the team.
